Please note: we remain open for massage therapy by appointment only. Physical therapy remains unchanged as well.
PLANKS! It’s a great exercise that strengthens your abdominals, back and shoulders. Tips: - try to keep your shoulder blades pulled back and down - try to keep your back straight... - try to aim for at least a 30 second hold. Repeat 3 times. Your goal should eventually be a minute! - planks can also be done on your knees to make it easier, or on your hands to make it harder. You can also do side planks to work your oblique muscles. **pics 2 and 3 show what NOT to do! Give them a try this weekend and let us know how you do!
Have a great weekend everyone!
We are looking for a full time physical therapist to join our established clinic in the west end. Part time applicants will also be considered. Applicant must be licensed to work as a PT in Alberta. Our experienced PT’s (with over 85 years of combined experience) provide an excellent environment to learn in. Shift will be primarily afternoons/evenings, with the opportunity to move to combined mornings/evenings once established. We are flexible with time off and offer benefits.
Have a great Easter weekend! Reminder to get outside and enjoy some sunshine this weekend!
Here's a great exercise for your glutes! Monster walk with resistance band: Place a resistance band around both feet or ankles. Standing with your feet shoulder width apart, take one step out towards the side, then bring the other foot back towards the first foot. Try taking around 7 steps to one side, then 7 steps to the other side. Repeat 2-3 times. Remember to keep your feet facing forwards and to ensure your knees don’t buckle in! If you find this too easy, try squatting ...while doing it! #grangept #yegphysio #gluteexercises #homeexercises #minibandworkout
Unfortunately, muscle mass starts to decrease by 3-8% each decade after the age of 30, and at an even higher rate after the age of 60!! This involuntary loss of muscle mass and strength is termed sarcopenia. This is why strength training is so important as we get older. Over the next few weeks, we will highlight some easy strengthening exercises you can do at home to help maintain your muscles. Let’s all get stronger, so we can stay mobile! #grangept #yegphysio #strengthtraining #staystrong

Can balance be improved? YES!! You can train your body and joints to learn how to stay upright. 1) Practice standing on one foot. Make sure to practice with your eyes closed as well so you dont always rely on your vision 2) Practice changing positions while on uneven ground. Wobble boards are great for challenging you, but you can also stand on a cushion for a similar effect... 3) Try to engage your core while doing these exercises. A strong core will help your balance immensely Feel free to call us for more info at 780-756-3535. #grangept #yegphysio #balanceexercises See more

Lets hope it doesnt look like this when our massage therapists return next month
Great news! We have received word from our college and we are now able to see patients with acute injuries (eg. recent surgery or MVA) and those who are experiencing a loss in their ability to function. We are now open for business for these clients and will still have Telehealth available for clients who arent as severe. Please contact the clinic at 780-756-3535 to book an appointment or for further information.... Note: we expect to be able to open to the general public on May 14, 2020. Massage therapy will likely not be available until the province announces Stage 2 of reopening businesses.
To our dearly missed clients, We hope you are all staying safe. We thought of reaching out to you today to provide some updates with regards to our clinic operations. The Alberta government and physical therapy regulatory bodies are allowing clinics to operate again with some restrictions and contact precautions as early as next week (the exact date will be updated this weekend or on Monday, May 4th, 2020). Massage therapy will be allowed to operate again, with restrictions ...yet to be announced, on May 14, 2020. We would like to inform our clients that our staff will take all necessary contact precautions for the foreseeable future in order to keep us all safe. Staff will be wearing masks and we request that all clients wear a mask upon arrival at the clinic. If you do not have a mask, one will be available for purchase from us. To help with management of social distancing, we will limit the number of patients in the clinic until further relaxation of restrictions is allowed and our COVID-19 situation changes. Upon arrival, please call us to let us know that you have arrived. You will be asked to wait in your vehicle until a room opens up and has been properly sanitized. The clinic staff will then call you over phone and guide you to the respective treatment room. We request all clients to inform us if you have experienced any COVID-19 related symptoms like cough, fever, diarrhea, tightness in the chest, etc. prior to your appointment. In the event of exposure to a person with COVID-19, we request that you quarantine for the mandatory 2 weeks before your visit. Thank you for your patience during these uncertain times and we will update you all as soon as we know more. See more
Here are some great stretches to do if you've been spending a lot of time in front of a computer or using a phone/tablet. Message us if you have any questions!
We made our first YouTube video! Check out the video for tips from our physical therapist, Dana Galenzoski, on how to set up your desk while working from home. Home ergonomics tips: Sitting ... - Try and sit on a comfortable chair with back support; if your chair doesnt have good lumbar support, try rolling up a pillow or towel to place behind your low back - Try and have your feet supported on the ground or use books under your feet if they do not reach the ground - Try and keep your computer/laptop at eye level (use books or boxes to increase the height as needed) - Use a towel under the forearms for wrist support as needed - Sit up yall and keep the chin tucked slightly Standing - Use your kitchen counter and adjust your computer to eye level with books or boxes - If your back gets sore while standing, try and put one foot on a stool or book to offload the back REMEMBER: keep moving! Dont stay in one position for too long, even if it is an ideal one If you have any questions or are having any pain at home, please book in for a telerehab session by calling 780-756-3535

Happy International Womens Day from our talented, bright, hardworking FEMALE staff @grangept #womeninbusiness #womeninspiringwomen #internationalwomensday
Today wed like to take this time to remind you all TO INVEST IN YOU! Too often, when we ask clients how long theyve been dealing with their injury, theyll say months or even years! It is much harder to treat a chronic injury once muscles have shortened, joints have stiffened, and poor compensating patterns become habits. So come in to get those aches and pains looked at, ask us for those core or postural exercises, book regular massages to prevent injuries. Your HEALTH is ...your LIFE and it is important to take care of your body! #grangept #yegphysio #yegmassage #investinyourself
As of March 31, 2020 Alberta Health Care will no longer be covering the costs of diagnostic imaging ordered by physical therapists, chiropractors, or audiologists. This is disappointing and frustrating news, as our ability to provide this service saves time for patients and helps free up wait times for doctors. Please help us voice the negative impacts this will cause by contacting our local MLA (Jon Carson - NDP) or the Minister of Health (Tyler Shandro - PC). These cuts will end up increasing costs to healthcare!
Whats the best exercise after an ankle sprain? This stretch is one of them! It will help squish out the fluid in the ankle, stretch the deeper calf muscle, and decrease joint stiffness. So if youve had a recent ankle sprain you can start doing this stretch right away. The goal is to have the same mobility as the other ankle eventually, though this may take up to 3 months! #grangept #anklerehab #anklesprain #yegphysio
Hope everyone had a great Family Day long weekend! If youre exhausted after the weekend, or didnt get spoiled on Valentines Day, come see us for a massage! Weve extended our Valentines Day special for $10 off a massage gift certificate until the end of this month. #grangept #yegmassage #spoilyourself #selfcare
