PETERBOROUGH POLICE WILL CONTINUE TO BE COMPLAINTS-DRIVEN IN OUR RESPONSE. On April 16, 2021, the Government of Ontario announced new restrictions, including ...a two-week extension of the current province-wide stay-at-home order, and measures to curb the increasing number of COVID-19 cases we are seeing across the province. New enhanced enforcement measures for provincial offences officers were also announced, this includes but is not limited to police officers, under the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act (EMPCA). The Peterborough Police Service is reviewing the new regulations. Although these new enforcement measures have been given, Peterborough Police will continue to be complaints-driven in our response to the increased public health measures, that means we will not be randomly stopping people. Great care will be taken to ensure there is no misuse or perceived misuse of any enforcement measures as the trust of our communities is of the utmost importance and a pillar of the community policing model. We remain committed to ensuring our police officers and personnel work in a transparent and accountable manner whenever they interact with residents during these trying times. It’s also vital that we take this pandemic seriously and do what is needed stay home and practice public health guidelines. The Buckhorn Community Centre is the HUB of our community. The BCC depends on fundraising and donations to keep the doors open and to be able provide our commun...ity with a wide variety of activities for the whole family such as Canada Day , Dinner Theatre, Blizzardfest, golf tournaments, exercises classes, Happy Hour, The Family Christmas Party and so forth. Due to COVID-19, most of these fund raising activities have been cancelled. Therefore, the BCC needs our help. Currently, the BCC is hosting several COVID friendly fund raising events. The Festival of Trees is on now and running until Dec.14th. All COVID protocols are in place. There are 24 beautiful Christmas trees and decor to win. Take away Tuesdays are delicious entrees and/or soups available for pick up and take to your own home to enjoy. We have co...me to learn that many locals have never set foot inside the Buckhorn Welcome Centre. We’ve learned that some locals didn’t even know we had a Welcome Centre and/or what it’s all about. So this month we’d like to help change that. The Buckhorn District Tourist Association and the Welcome Centre are about promoting tourism in beautiful Buckhorn and area but we are also about promoting local business and helping our community. Along with displaying loads of information about tourism and local businesses in our area, currently, we are promoting a local artist and we are collecting toys and food for the Trent Lakes Christmas Hamper. Here’s the part about the contest. This month, we’d like you to visit the Welcome Centre and check us out. The Gypsy moth are now into the next stage of their life cycle. You can see the male moths, which are small and brown, flying around low to the ground. The fema...les are larger, white, and flightless and can be found on the trunks of trees actively laying eggs (shown in photo). Control at this point includes killing the female moths, attracting and killing male moths with pheromone traps, and scraping off the egg masses. As you can see in the photo, the egg masses are brown fuzzy patches. When removing the egg masses scrape them into a bag or pail and either burn or drown them in soapy water. By removing as many egg masses as possible you will greatly reduce the population of caterpillars next spring. Stay tuned for information on our Gypsy Moth management package that we will be offering next spring.

Peterborough Public Health is advising the public that mosquitoes in the City of Peterborough have tested positive for West Nile virus (WNV). The mosquitoes we...re trapped from July 20 to 23, 2020. This is the first positive mosquito pool found in Peterborough this year. According to Public Health Ontario, as of July 18, 2020 there were no WNV positive mosquito pools identified in the province and no human WNV cases. During the summer months and early fall, PPH sets traps weekly throughout the City and County of Peterborough to gather mosquito specimens for WNV testing. The ripe raspberries have all been picked and we have to close for PYO on Sunday Please help spread the word that all PYO is closed on Sunday July 19th. We ...are sadly unable to be open for any PYO tomorrow. Looking at the raspberries there is not enough ripe to be able to be open tomorrow - everything ripe has been harvested and they just need more time to ripen. As well - after looking at the strawberries there is really nothing left to pick and the heat has done in the last of them so we will also be closed for PYO strawberries. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience - we wish it were different but are sadly unable to control how fast berries ripen! (Though what a nice world THAT would be!)

We are happy to announce that the Riverview Park and Zoo playground, one of the largest and most diverse playgrounds in the City, will be open to the public on ...Wednesday July 22nd, 2020 with the following notifications and guidelines for visitors: Due to limited resources and the safety of visitors and staff, all washrooms will remain closed and garbage is carry-in/carry-out. Please plan accordingly and help keep the park clean. The zoo remains closed at this time. This includes the zoo area, all facilities between the gates, amenities and attractions (the zoo, splash pad, gift shop, washrooms, train ride, programs, picnic shelters and facility rentals). Only essential staff are on-site taking care of the 150 animals, 30 exhibits, grounds and facilities. These limited resources mean that we must continue to focus on what is most important, caring for the animals that live here, and keeping them and the staff who care for them safe. #closedbutstillcaring

We have been holding off commenting on the last few weeks of (Mayhem) at our beautiful location & community However, today with the media exposure and the incr...eased incidents of violence over the weekend we are appealing to everyone and anyone that will hear us. On behalf of the Inn and the Burleigh Falls Community, residents and staff, we DO welcome you to visit, we DO want you to enjoy our gorgeous area, stay at the Inn, rent kayaks canoes, and have an ice cream or dine on the patio. What we do not want and can’t have any more is overcrowding, defecating, trespassing on private lands, parking on private lands, intoxication, drug use, garbage and the increase in violence. So here is our plea, if you are travelling to the area and you arrive and see that the small parking area at the Falls is full of vehicles ASSUME the falls are full and perhaps visit another day. Do not just park anywhere you want to, don’t leave us your mess to clean up after, and by god do not use our lands, our homes and our riverbanks as your Toilet. Do not overstay your welcome and leave at a reasonable time and do not party all night, set off fireworks and cause out of control fires, do not drink to intoxication causing near fatalities or water accidents. Do not harass the area residents and the businesses for the lack of public facilities (this is not our fault), Don’t swear, curse and verbally abuse us, we don’t deserve it and most importantly treat all those you come in contact with as you would like to be treated. All we ask that when you visit that you #respect respect the land, the beauty and most importantly the people and in return we will give you the same #respect. Another hot sunny weekend and week ahead. We suspected it was just a matter of time before a Fire Ban came in to effect. As of midnight tonight, there is a comp...lete Fire Ban. This means no open flame fires for any reason. Please keep our community safe by respecting this ban. Because the Community Center is still closed, the 507 is being published online for you on the Cavendish Community Center Website. Big thanks to Kathy and her crew for keeping the community newspaper going. In continued efforts to keep everyone safe, we will not be offering water taxi services this year. And for those of you who have been missing your weekly trip to visit Don and Bill at the Transfer Station, they are back up and running for normal operations and eagerly await your visits! Transfer Station Temporary Operating Process. As Trent Lakes moves forward to re-open additional Transfer Station Services, effective June 29th the following op...erating processes have been put in place to protect staff and the public's health. Transfer Station staff will be implementing the following processes until further notice. 1. Residents will be asked to mark their own Waste Card. If they do not have their own pen attendants can provide a sanitized marker for their use. The marker can be dropped in a bucket to be sanitized at the end of the day and reused. 2. In addition to Interac / Debit payments, residents can pay by cash, using exact change only. Cheques and Credit Cards will not be accepted. Loads will be rounded up or down to eliminate change. Receipts will not be issued at this time. 3. Reuse centres will remain closed until further notice. 4. Fluorescent tubes and car batteries will be accepted at Bobcaygeon, Cavendish and Crystal Lake Transfer Stations. As the Hazardous Waste Collection site at Buckhorn will remain closed this season, car batteries and fluorescent tubes will not be accepted. 5. Construction, demolition material, shingles and drywall and furniture will now be accepted and charged as per our Fee Schedule. 6. GEEP electronics will reopen at all sites and organics will be accepted at Buckhorn. Dry Cell Batteries will not be accepted at this time. 7. Alcohol bottle return will remain closed at this time. 8. Cottage Kits and Dog Tags can now be purchased at all Transfer Stations. Fire w...orks are NOT permitted at any of our public beaches. Remember that pets may be frightened by fire works and could resort to unpredictable "flight" methods. Take extra precautions to ensure they are in a safe place indoors or securely on-leash when outdoors. No person shall set off fireworks within the Municipality at any time except as follows: 1. New Year's Eve - between 8:00 p.m. and 1:00 a.m. the following day; 2. Canada Day- between 8:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. on July 1st and the Weekends directly preceding and following it; 3. Civic Holiday - between 8:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. on the statutory holiday and the Weekend directly preceding it; 4. Labour Day - between 8:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. on the statutory holiday and the Weekend directly preceding it; No person shall set off any fireworks in, on or onto any building, highway or sidewalk, Municipal park or Municipal property.
