Grass is Greener

April 13th was International Plant Appreciation Day and there are so many to appreciate; flowers, ferns, trees, and of course our favourite is grass!

'The Grass is Greener' sure is a popular phrase. For instance it's the title of a comedy starring Cary Grant & Robert Mitchum from the 1960s; it is also the name of a Bluefest-like music festival where Australia gets to highlight it's wonderful musicians. And best of all, there's our grounds maintenance that makes sure your lawn always looks it's best!

Many years ago, we had a screen door on the back porch of our old farmhouse. Every time there was a blustery day it was wrenched open against its hinges, frequently suffering damage. I dutifully repaired it for years and it was obvious the previous owners had done the same. One day I was looking at an old door my father had discarded. In spite of the fact that it opened the wrong way (meaning the opposite way to which our current door opened) I concluded this may be the very problem with our old door...IT was opening the wrong way. I gave it a try and never replaced the door again. We dubbed this the "screen door solution". Like City Hall, you cannot fight Mother Nature.

Happy April everyone! April Fool's day is a favourite around the office, though it's a shame to waste seeds this way when they can be enjoyed for so much longer if you plant outside!

March 11th is Johnny Appleseed day! Our group loves trees and can't wait for the crab apple outside to bloom. What's your favourite kind of tree?
