Another Whisperheat gone! We replaced the heat exchanger on this oversized relic a scant 8 years ago, and it cracked through this winter. A new Ruud U96V took its place, and we installed a Keeprite NH4A4 AC in the place of the old York to keep clearance for the landscaped walkway. Any other unit would have extended into the walkway 6-8" more.
Builder spec extravaganza! Furnace full of sawdust and OSB bits? Check. Take offs cut in on the plenum transition? Check. Static pressure so high it's off the manufacturers airflow charts? Double check. Big ass air gap around the fancy five inch filter frame? You got it! This all comes with your new $500k + home,. courtesy of your builder and the lowest bidder!
It's disgusting but this sort of thing is happening here in Winnipeg as well.
Although we don't offer drain cleaning, we recommend routine inspection and service of your plumbing system. Otherwise, you might end up with a furnace full of sewer water. And no, warranty does not cover water damage.
Before and after. A 1998 AC coil that had a humidifier leaking on it for a few seasons. Replaced with a new OEM cased coil and AC system. We are glad so many more people are being proactive and replacing old systems prior to the busy season. We are actually booked into mid May currently, there has been such high demand!
So, this house never had a return air duct system at all. The previous furnace (assuming a permit was even pulled) was here almost 20 years. There are no spillage susceptible appliances in this home, and there are no doorways between floors. (Open loft and open stairway to basement) so while not ideal, the system is safe. Regardless, MB Hydro has failed the installation of this furnace and is requiring an entire return air duct be installed. Basically this customer is being penalized for living in an old house and not being wealthy.
Third AC of the season. Took out the '86 Lennox and replaced with a Ruud RA13 and TXV cased coil.. Ryan even brought his big boy shovel to get the new AC level.
The old, oversized Rheem put in 23 years of faithful service, in no small part due to routine maintenance. The owner decided to proactively replace the furnace before next winter. Despite being a downflow and a tight space (had to lift unit above the water heater) we got it done.
