The Opera House lit up in red for #lightuplive, A Day of Visibility for the Live Event Community and in support of all of our colleagues across the country. #lightuplive #WeMakeEvents #supportlivetheatre #supportlivemusic

Gravenhurst Opera House 06.10.2020

You will notice this evening, that the Opera House will be lit up in red. This day, September 22nd, 2020 has been designated, the Canada-wide Day of Visibility for the Live Event Community. The Opera House, along with hundreds of other venues across the country will be lit up in recognition of the live event workers who have been greatly affected by COVID-19. Live events span many industries, including production companies, outdoor festivals, music, theatre arts, sports, heri...tage as well as convention, meeting and wedding planners. It involves arts managers, programmers, front of house staff, technical staff, designers, performers and more, and contributes significantly to the health, wellness and economic stability of its surrounding communities! Over one million Canadians worked in these industries until the global threat of COVID-19 closed performance venues, theatres and cancelled large gatherings, leaving many of these people out of work for the past 7 months with great uncertainty moving forward. Venues such as the Gravenhurst Opera House will be integral to the economic recovery of towns and cities across the globe, and hence the importance of continuing to support these workers and by acknowledging this, the Day of Visibility for the Live Event Community. #LightUpLive www.lightuplive.ca/about/

Being without you does take a lot of getting used to! After playing to a small audience in 2014, we promised to have them back, playing to a packed house. Tonight was scheduled to be our annual Summer Season Wrap Up Concert and fundraiser for Meagan's Hug featuring Brass Transit: The Musical Legacy of Chicago! Even in March, it was looking to be a sold out show, just like we promised! Thanks to all of you for supporting the theatre and don't worry, this show will definitely h...appen and we can't wait for you to see them live at the Opera House! Visit www.brasstransit.com for more about this incredibly talented band and remember to support the arts, now more than ever! Here's a taste of what we're missing tonight. #WeMakeEvents #supportlivemusic #supportthearts

We are a day late but thought it very important to share that September 8th is #nationalactorsday, the day dedicated to celebrating, the actor. Actors have been an iconic part of the history of humanity, telling stories of love and tragedy through all forms of life, inspiring the imaginations of millions. As the conveyors of stories, actors are artists of their craft, and we don't spend nearly enough time celebrating them! Actors’ Day aims to show appreciation for actors in o...ur lives by showcasing their history and how they have influenced people’s lives. Since 1901, the Opera House has welcomed a multitude of actors, both professional and non-professional and has provided a safe space to break legs, hone skills and even launch careers. Despite the current pause, we know that actors are resilient and before long, we will be celebrating their return to the stage. Here's to our actors! We love you and we miss you! #nationalactorsday #actorsday Photo: 2018 Muskoka Summer Theatre Season - Cast of the World Goes 'Round - Photo Credit: Larry Carroll See more

We were so excited to be welcoming the multi-award winning Miss Emily back to our stage on August 29th, but alas, that was not possible. Don't worry though, she'll be back on our roster as soon as we're able. Artists and venues go hand in hand and we're so happy to see so many of our artist friends out performing live and in person! Thanks Emily for this special message and beautiful song! https://www.facebook.com/watch/

Planning and development projects are very important in keeping our community moving forward. With the Opera House in mind, the Town of Gravenhurst’s Planning Department obtained permission from health authorities to hold their first in-person Committee of Adjustment meeting since February. With all the proper protocols in place, it went off without a hitch and we’ve got to admit, it sure felt good to have people back in the building again!

Hey, it's Friday so let us help you 'Swing' into the weekend with a throwback from our 2017 Muskoka Summer Theatre season with a sizzle reel from our production of Swing! This fun, musical trip down memory lane was originally created by two incredibly talented Canadians, Alan Lund and Howard Cable. With a fantastic cast and a knockout band, this show had guests returning multiple times, helping us to reach record sales that summer! Stay safe and have a great weekend!

We have really enjoyed presenting Sing Along Tim at our theatre in the past. We especially love his award winning 'Booger Song'. They were scheduled to return as part of our March Break programming this year. However, when everything changed and we were no longer able to host events at the Opera House, Sing Along Tim Machin & Lori Nancy Kalamanski decided to go online. They are both experienced arts educators and performers and wanted to do something to help families wit...h young children while hunkered down at home. From March to June they presented a live, interactive music-based variety show, on Facebook, 3 times a week. The shows were very creative and so much fun! As a result, their work was featured by East End Arts and The Social Distancing Festival. Congratulations Tim and Lori Nancy! If you are looking for a fun program for your little ones, check out the information below. There are links to archived shows, testimonials and a plan for producing more. Super fun! See more

While the Muskoka Music Festival couldn't go ahead as planned this weekend, they have been sharing some pretty spectacular virtual concerts over the past several weeks, both on line and at the Muskoka Drive-In! What a great way to share the incredible talent the festival presents each year. This week's concert features Harrow Fair and a music video that is near and dear to our Opera House hearts. This video shoot was the last event that took place in our theatre before the pandemic forced us to close to the public. It was an incredible night and we are so proud that Miranda and Andrew chose our venue to be the backdrop for this beautiful song. Do you recognize anyone? We look forward to seeing the festival back next year! Now, here is Seat At The Table by Harrow Fair.

Created and curated by singer, songwriter, musician and all around amazing human being, Miranda Mulholland, the Muskoka Music Festival was scheduled for it's 4th year this weekend at the Opera House. The festival has grown from its original roots as the Sawdust City Music Festival and each year, features incredible performers from across the country and around the globe. Last year's event was very special and welcomed visitors from as far away as South America, Mexico, Texas and all across Canada. This backstage view from the 2019 festival is SIMPLY THE BEST. Here is Noah Reid, one of the stars of Schitt's Creek, making our 100 year old Steinway sound amazing.

This time of year, our theatre is normally bustling with visitors from near and far and backstage, dressing rooms and hallways filled with singers, dancers, musicians and crew members, ready to bring their best to our stage.
