Can Depression Last Forever? Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) or clinical depression is a mental health condition that can range from mild to severe. In order for a diagnosis of MDD symptoms would have had to last at least two weeks. How long depression lasts however is determined by several different factors. Here are just 3: 1. Whether or not you get treatment. Untreated depression could last much longer, even a lifetime. If you are suffering please go see a health care ...professional to get assessment and help. 2. The type or combination of treatment whether it’s psychotherapy, medication or electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) could determine the length of the depression. It sometimes takes time for someone to find the treatment or combination of treatments that work best for you. And once you find the right treatment it sometimes takes time to feel it’s full effect. 3. Comorbidity: do you have multiple diagnoses at the same time? Depression as well as other disorders such as Addictions, developmental trauma or PTSD? Co-morbidity can complicate depression and even cause it to last longer. Depression does not have to last forever. In addition to the three points above, there are various social, psychological and physiological factors that could determine the length of a depressive episode. But there is help. You can get through it and go on to live a happy and fulfilling life. So don’t suffer in silence. Reach out for help. #depressionawareness #depressiondoesntlastforever #mentalwellness #blackmentalwellness #mentalhealthblogger #mentalhealthsupport #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealthjourney #blackmentalhealth #blackmentalhealthmatters #blackmentalhealthawareness #blackmentalhealthadvocate #graymatterhealth #theempowermentplanner

There are so many great reasons to join group therapy: 1. Knowing you are not the alone and that others are going through similar challenges helps combat isolation and stigma. 2. Giving and receiving support is not only heart warming, but it allows you to feel like you are apart of something special by contributing positively to others’ success as they contribute to yours. 3. Build self confidence as you learn to express your voice and overcome anxious thoughts. Groups g...ive an opportunity for you to sharpen your social skills while exercising self compassion. 4. Make meaningful connections that could last a lifetime in a time of when the pandemic has caused so much social isolation. When you meet others like you who are supportive and kind, it’s natural to feel connected and build lasting friendships. 5. Learning new strategies and techniques is the name of the game! You will leave the ReVamp group with new ways of viewing your situation and new ways to tackle life successfully! Sometimes your best is good enough. No, always your best is good enough. That’s all you can do is your best. You may need to learn more things and grow in some areas but today, you are doing the best you can with all that you’ve got. That is to be commended!! You may not be perfect, but none of us are. We make mistakes but so what? We learn, apologize, make corrections, make amends and move on. You can decide to do your best and be your best each morning you wake up. ... Today you are doing the best you can! Not sure if you are seeing signs of mental illness in yourself or a loved one? Here are 5 indicators that you may want to pay attention to: 1. Extreme changes in mood. If you are noticing extreme over confidence, or euphoria, extreme sadness, constant rage, persistent irritability or any other extremes in mood, it may be time to pay close attention. If these mood changes are having an impact on ones ability to thrive, maintain relationships or perform activities of daily ...living, it may be time to seek some help. 2. Dramatic changes in food intake or weight. Under-eating or over eating for an extended period of time will impact weight adversely. Rapid weight loss or gain, can be a sure sign that one’s mental well-being may be at risk. 3. Social Isolation. Pay attention to the friends you no longer hear from. You may just think oh sally is just doing her thang or Johnny just wants to keep to himself but consider whether this is a norm or a change in behaviour for that individual. Even when you think it’s a norm, you may want to check in on them to ensure all is well. Social isolation could be a sign that all is actually not well. 4. Constant & Excessive Anxiety or Paranoid thoughts. We all get anxious from time to time and we are all certainly a bit more anxious with Covid seemingly lurking around every corner. If anxiety or paranoia shows up in excessive measure and in constant frequency, there is cause for concern. Or if it’s preventing you from carrying out your everyday activities of life, it may be time to seek some assistance. 5. Sleep Disturbances. If someone hasn’t slept for days, or sleeps too much, or finds it difficult to fall asleep or stay sleep, there is cause for concern. Disturbed sleep is a good indicator that things are not going as well as they could be. Both a lack of sleep and oversleeping may be signs that a mental illness is looming. If you’ve tried self help remedies and still haven’t seen signs of improvement, it’s likely time to get some help. Please note that no single one of these on their own means that you have a mental illness. For a mental health assessment DM me for more information. #graymaterhealth

If you are feeling overwhelmed, anxious, angry, nervous, sad or generally uncomfortable in your mind or body, you may want to adopt some self soothing strategies into your routine. Here are just 5 ways that you can begin to self soothe: 1. Imagine a gently flowing stream or imagine any imagery that brings you that sense of peaceful calm. The mind is a powerful to that you may use to bring the sense of calm to the body. 2. Practice mindfulness. Mindfulness is the art of ...experiencing the present moment. It involves paying focused attention on what your senses are experiencing in the current moment. 3. Listen to calming music. Music is a powerful tool to assist with emotional regulation. 4. Practice deep breathing. This helps to engage your parasympathetic nervous system: the system responsible for slowing down a rapid heart rate and relaxing your muscles. 5. Hug Yourself. This may seem a bit silly but self compassion is an important part of self soothing. As you hug yourself pay attention to your thoughts and ensure you are saying nice things to yourself about yourself. #selfsoothing #graymatterhealth #mentalhealthandwellness #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealthmatters #mentalhealthrecovery #mentalhealthsupport #mentalhealthawarness #mentalhealthadvocate #mentalhealthblogger #mentalhealthadvice #mentalhealthawarenes #mentalhealthcounseling #blackmentalhealth #blackmentalheathadvocate #blackmentalhealthmatters #blackmentalwellness #mentalhealthcommunity #MentalHealthAdvocacy
