Good morning Great Adventures families, Last week, Premier Jason Kenney announced Alberta's Relaunch Strategy, a staged COVID-19 recovery plan to relaunch our economy. Child care centres are included in Phase 1, meaning we expect reopening to be permitted in mid-May. Phase 1 could begin as early as May 14 but please know it will only begin when public health guidelines are established. Children’s Services is working hard with partners in Alberta Health to develop the guidelin...es in which we will operate. As many of you have probably heard, Premier Kenney announced Alberta's Phased Relaunch Strategy. He indicated that day care facilities will be allowed to open as early as May 14th under very strict public health guidelines including the number of children in the facility, sanitation standards, daily questionnaires, and other new requirements. The specifics will come from Alberta Health in the coming days. This will should give us the time to prepare the necessary precautions ...to keep everyone safe. No worries, we are here to help you! ... 1. Watch the activity 2. Message us if you want to do the activity and do not have the material/supplies at home 3. We deliver the material, so you and child/children create a masterpiece Today's idea: SURPRISE BAGS Surprise bags, activity bags, busy bags, boredom bags, hidden treasure, whatever you chose to call them, these bags will encourage positive learning and inquisitive nature in your child. Materials: Cloth bag (you can also use a backpack, a purse, a diaper bag) What can you put in the bag? Anything you can find around your home (Keep in mind, you need to put age-appropriate, self-guided activities) toys, bakery utensils, garden items, books, lacing cards, safety scissors and construction paper. You can make it a simple thing or as complex as you like. The possibilities are infinite! The great thing about it is that you can keep changing it. What might be in the bag today? Have fun!

** COMMUNITY ANNOUNCEMENT ** The Ministry of Children Services has developed a plan to reopen some licensed day care facilities to provide care to a maximum of 24 children to support core services workers in our community.... We're proud to announce that Great Adventures Active Learning Centre has been selected as ONE of these facilities. Access will be prioritized to the hard-working health care practitioners and critical infrastructure workers in our city. Additional space will be available to first responders and essential service workers. For now, Great Adventures children are not returning to regular programing just yet unfortunately. As soon as the situation changes, we will be in touch as we all hope that it ends soon and we receive an official notification from the Ministry that it is okay to have all our regular children back to the day care. Please note that you all have your spots still at our Centre, this is not changing anything besides allowing all these families to have someone to take care of their children while they are taking care of our love ones. Good afternoon Great Adventures Families :) In the interest of prioritizing the health and welfare of our children, staff and our community, I believe that it is important to keep everyone informed about what our centre is implementing. When responding to infectious diseases, it is important to know that our centre follows the directions and recommendations made by health authorities. Starting tomorrow the following protocols will be in place:... - The frequency of cleaning and disinfecting of objects and high touch surfaces will be increase. - Toys and materials will be replaced for others that are easy to clean and sanitize as well as replacing toys more often especially in the infant room. - Great Adventures Active Learning Centre will follow COVID-19 Alberta Guidance for schools and Child Care program recommendations. I've attached a copy of it, I will recommend that you read the whole document, but please refer to page 9 to better understand what we are encouraged to do. We don't want to increase the stress and uncertainness we all already have with this situation, but this is an attempt to work with you on maintaining the safety of our Great Adventures family. With growing concerns around the recent COVID-19 outbreak, here’s our 5 TIPS to BOOSTING IMMUNITY and staying HEALTHY over the coming weeks (PLEASE KEEP READING...): 1 AVOID LARGE CROWDS: The Provincial Govt has shut down large gatherings of people over 250 people, so it may be best to avoid attending large events or activities. This specifically goes for seniors and children, or people with low-immune systems and other existing health issues, especially involving the lungs. 2 WASH YOUR HANDS THOROUGHLY: It goes without saying that great hygiene goes a long way. We love creating mini-activities - especially activities which our children can take home and share with their parents.
