Today is National Philanthropy Day! Congratulations to the 2020 Giving Hearts Honour Roll Recipients Each year, National Philanthropy Day (NPD) on Vancouver Island provides an opportunity to gather to celebrate the generosity of our community and learn new skills to apply to the philanthropic sector. ... Nominations from community members across Vancouver Island poured in, resulting in over 150 generous individuals, organizations, and businesses being included in this year’s Giving Hearts Honour Roll presented by Coast Capital Savings. This is a true testament to the incredible community of changemakers across Vancouver Island. Philanthropy is alive and well in our homes and communities! Members of this year’s Giving Hearts Honour Roll received an acknowledgment certificate, and featured in the celebration video shown here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Euw6o2ipGE4&feature=emb_logo Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) - Vancouver Island #nationalphilanthropyday #givinghearts #local #community

Happy Diwali The word Diwali (or Deepavali as it’s sometimes called) means row of lights in an Ancient language of India, called Sanskrit. During this festival, people decorate their homes with lights and oil lamps, called diyas. It’s also a celebration of good triumphing over evil, and different legends based on this theme are associated with Diwali. In northern India, Hindus celebrate the return of the deities (gods) Rama and Sita to the city of Ayodhya, after defea...ting the evil king Ravana! . But it’s not just about lights and legends Diwali is a time to have fun with friends and family! People exchange gifts and sweets, enjoy delicious feasts, watch firework displays and wear new clothes. It’s a time to clean and decorate your home, too. It might be celebrated a bit differently this year (thanks a lot covid) but the light and the love will still be there. . #diwali #festivaloflights #celebration #lightoverdarkness
