Did you know there's a huge gap in the number of female students pursuing engineering? Western University is hosting the first ever Future ENG All-Girls Engineering Conference. It's a two-day event open to girls in grades 9-12, intended to inspire the next generation of female engineers. Participants will connect with like-minded peers in hands-on workshops, speaker series and panels. There is no cost to attend the event. See the link below for more information and to register.

Ms. Dath-McLellan’s music class was ready to rock as they played this AC/DC classic during their spring concert. They prerecorded the vocals and played along to them. Many in the class had never played their instrument before the start of the quadmester. Great job, everyone! #greatlakessecondaryschool #lambtonkentdistrictschoolboard #studentmusicians #musicdepartment #acdc #guitar #drums #keyboard

The video of the Grade 11/12 drama performance is ready for viewing! It's split across 3 YouTube videos, with the links in the post and comments. Here's a message from the class: We really wish we could have hosted you in the new theatre for this performance, but the timing didn't quite go our way, so we have done our best to put our production together in the dramateria. The scenes you are about to watch are from a play called "Almost, Maine", by John Cariani. The play take...s place on a wintery Friday night in a small town, with each scene meant to occur simultaneously around 9 pm. All of the characters are falling in or out of love on this same Friday night under a big, starry sky. In our class, each Grade 12 student chose a scene from the play to direct. The cast of each scene is made up of one Grade 11 and one Grade 12 actor. We had to overcome a few challenges along the way, including having some class members isolating at home and facetiming in for rehearsals. But, in the end, we are happy with what we were able to put together. A word of warning-- there is one scene near Echo Pond that was performed by a few different groups. Maybe it will be fun for you to see how each cast interpreted the scene differently. Finally, we recorded the whole production in real time, so there is no slick editing or camera work here. The actors, lighting and sound technicians, and stage hands all had to behave as though there was a live audience. We hope you enjoy the show! Cast: Scene 1 - Ben and Tava Scene 2 - Maia and Maxwell Scene 3 - Ethan and Delainie Scene 4 - Megan and Kelleigh Scene 5 - Logan and Sierra Scene 6 - Abby and Tava Scene 7- Nathan and Savannah Scene 8 - Maxx and Harmony Scene 9 - Curtain Call

Ms. Brander’s Grade 11/12 drama class is getting ready for their final performance taping this morning! In keeping with the live theatre experience, the recording will be a single-take, real-time version of what a live audience would have seen if they were able to have one. Break a leg everyone!

The Grade 10 history class recently participated in a "Provocation Art for Teaching Treaties" session with Moses Lunham. "Moses has an amazing ability to teach through story and idea. The discussion with my class reflecting on their art piece indicated just how much they learned while painting," said Ms. Crick. #treatiesrecognitionweek #wearealltreatypeople #treatyeducation

Today marks the beginning of Treaties Recognition Week. To assist teachers we've recently added two copies of the Gdoo-Sastamoo Kii Mi Treaty Education Kit from... Anishinabek Nation to our library collection: "Interested in exploring the history and current issues around colonial treaties with First Nations peoples in the Ontario, Canada region? It has everything you need to develop a basic understanding of what treaties are, how they were and are made, who was and is involved, and the impact treaties have on all Canadians. Learn what "We are all treaty people!" means, and come to a better understanding of the land you live on and those that live there with you." - Anishinabek Nation #treatiesrecognitionweek #wearealltreatypeople
