Mar. 20 - April 3 2020 "Spring Equinox" (chn fn) is the fourth solar term of the year. As its name suggests, The Spring Equinox signals the equal length of the day and night time. On the day of the Spring Equinox, sun is directly above the equator. The sun moves northwards after the equinox, resulting in gradually longer day time in the Northern Hemisphere and longer night in the Southern Hemisphere. The climate feature of the spring equinox can be best described by three... events: swallows flew back from the south; thunder cracks the sky when it rains; lightening occurs. Egg-standing games Standing an egg upright is a popular game in China during the Spring Equinox. It is an old custom that dates back to 4,000 years ago. People practice this tradition to celebrate the coming of spring. It is believed that if someone can make the egg stand, he will have good luck in the future. Some believe that the spring equinox is the best time to play this game because the on this day, the axis of the earth is relatively balanced against the orbital plane of the earth's rotation around the sun, which makes it easier to erect an egg.

Jngzhé (Mar.4-19)- "Awakening of insects" is the third of the twenty-four solar terms. It literally means "waking up the hibernating insect underground". During this period, the temperature will warm up, precipitation will increase, and everything are coming back to life. Before and after this period, there will be occasional thunder caused by the increasing humidity of the ground, and rising hot air near the ground. Since ancient times, people have regarded this solar term as the beginning of spring cultivation. There is a custom of eating pear during wakening of insects. Because of the significantly rising temperature, people tend to have dry mouth and cough. Pear has the effects of moistening lungs and relieving cough. Eating pears at this time is very nourishing for the body.

2020- The newest eighth season of the Chinese television series Singer (previously titled I Am a Singer) was broadcast on Hunan Television on Feb.7 2020. As a music competition reality show, Singer has been a famous TV show in China for the past seven years. In each episode, the show invites 7 professional singers to perform for a 500-people audience and they will determine each singer's ranking by electronic voting. Rainwater- yshu is the 2nd of the 24 solar terms. It usually starts around February 18/19 of each year and lasts until March 4/5. During this period, the temperature begins to rise, the snow and ice begin to melt, and precipitation increased. That is why it was named rainwater. In the old days, folks followed the custom in which this is a time for married daughter to bring gifts back home such cans of meat to visit their parents and thank them for their kindness.
