The real reason to listen to your coach and keep up the training. Don't be a victim in the Zombie Apocalypse.
Fun? Is there an app for that?
Back patting time. Worked a full day of painting suites and then set a personal best 5km. Way to go me. #goodtbejohn
I was recently asked to start writing a column for Mr. Shades Media, an Okanagan Arts, Entertainment and Community website. Introducing: Fit Forward, my weekly column! https://mrshadesmedia.com/2021/04/30/feeling-unmotivated/
Who knew that exercise equipment could double up as toddler fun???
The Great Trail has been doing a winter photo challenge on Twitter that has inspired me to create my own - a photo scavenger hunt of sorts. 10 days of photos (they do not have to be consecutive) from your own adventure of getting outside. Selfies or pictures of you taken by someone else, still shots or short videos. You do not need to post these in any order, you can join at any time, and it's all good if you miss a day or two. Tag us @greatruncanada For a printable li...st, message us! Here is your list of scavenger hunt adventures: You on a swing set You climbing a hill You making a face like you're lifting something too heavy (but don't actually lift it, please!) You on ballerina toes in a field (you don't need to be en pointe!) You "breaking through the finish line" of an invisible race You walking or running with your favourite walking companion (if that is just you, then do that!) You eating your favourite post-outdoor-exercise snack You in a made-up (by you) yoga pose - don't forget to name it! Your "getting up at 5am for a run" face. (if you have never done this, pretend that someone is making you) You hugging your favourite footwear
BMI Bull$h!t: There are still many physicians and healthcare practitioners using BMI (Body Mass Index) as a measure of healthy versus unhealthy weight. Simply put, BMI measures weight divided by height. The problem here is that weight is dependent upon a number of factors, not all of them meaning you are actually overweight. Muscle is more dense than fat, so gaining muscle will likely result in an increase in scale weight. Someone who bodybuilds and is short may be fit, but their BMI could still put them in the overweight or even obese range. My advice: focus on feeling fit and getting stronger rather than what the scale tells you. Also, make sure your height is listed correctly with your medical professionals!
I have added a new certification to my list! I am now a certified Human Movement Specialist in addition to a running coach and personal trainer!
