Good morning from Green Wheel Farms Lots of trials going on here at the farm this week This one is Radish... I'm working toward a better yield at harvest time using less seed Granted in the beginning there is a bit more to do, for example ... Instead of top watering the tray these trials call for bottom watering.this requires 3 trays instead of just 2 and an added water vessel to do the watering i.e. a measuring cup Blackout times are longer Instead of Seeding the tray soaking it placing a tray on-top weighing it down with 15lbs of weight and leaving it for my normal 4 day blackout period This trial calls for a 5 day blackout period with misting 2 times a day for watering and inverting the tray on the 5th day, once the inverted tray comes of and the Radish are exposed to light bottom watering instead of surface watering begins And the trial tray is one more day of growing time, so instead of the normal 8 days from seeding to harvest the trial tray is 9 days from seed to harvest How this trial ends I'm not sure except there is going to be lot's of spicy Triton Radish at the Green Wheel Farms Roadside Vegetable Stand in the front porch this coming Saturday 11/28/20 10am to 5pm 21 Strachan St Belleville Just 4 blocks North of the Historic Belleville Farmers' Market Cheers from Green Wheel Farms

Good morning from Green Wheel Farms With this mini heat wave for the rest of the week Solarizing the beds seems like a good idea. I've covered the Northwest bl...ock here at the farm with clear plastic, and in 3 to 4 weeks I will cover this block again by putting a black tarp over top of the plastic this is called occultation The goal is a weed free block of warm beds earlier in the season to direct seed and transplant into Gonna do this with the rest of the blocks it's time to close it up in the outdoor beds for the season Cheers from Green Wheel Farms See more
