WAGLISLA ADULT LEARNING CENTRE HEILTSUK COLLEGE VISION STATEMENT Waglisla Adult Learning Centre/Heiltsuk College’s vision is to strengthen students through self-empowerment and self-governance. Throughout the school year, the students are an important part of the decision-making process in all aspects of their learning. WALC/ Heiltsuk College focuses on the following: Self Identity- It is important for students to know themselves, their heritage, kinship and family. Each... student is worthy of respect and has a contribution to make to Heiltsuk College. Heiltsuk History- Heiltsuk College provides an opportunity for students to focus on Heiltsuk history, including Heiltsuk values and traditions as they existed in the past and as they relate to the present day. Learning Opportunities- Heiltsuk College strives to strengthen students through classroom activities, peer support, opportunities for career development and by affirming the equality of each student. Life-Long Learning- Heiltsuk College strives to develop strong, culturally based values and knowledge in students, as well as the skills needed to continue to search for knowledge and wisdom as indigenous people. This school year we had a late start due to COVID 19 and have made every effort to ensure our programs are run according to the B. C Provincial guidelines. Work areas and work space are disinfected on a regular basis. Students are given the opportunity to either work online in the computer lab with SIDES online learning or work from home. WALC Adult Basic Education - Are you interested in completing your Grade 12 Education, or upgrading your skills? Are you planning to enter into a Post Secondary program that requires pre-requisites in order to qualify for the program? - Applications are accepted on a continuous basis - Applicant must be 19 years or older... - Must have a high school transcript - Complete a CAAT assessment Courses offered in partnership with SIDES and are accredited by the Ministry of Education: Mathematics to Grade 12, English, Biology, Chemistry, First Nations Studies 11/12 After successful completion of ABE program/courses, students will meet the Grade 12 requirements/pre-requisite requirements for Post Secondary Education. U Note: Some students that have registered are employed full time and will be given the option to come in for evening tutorials for Math/English/ Sciences - We do have an ongoing list where students have started the application process and have written the CAAT assessment (some need to complete) and still need to register online for the SIDES courses. ...
