Happy holidays from us at Green Door. We wish you love and joy, from a distance of course Enjoy the beauty of the small things this year! Extra helping of stuffing? Why not? Big piece of pie? Okay!... Wake up at noon and eat pizza? For sure! Usually the GD team gathers with friends and our Kimberley family, we often called it Orphan Christmas as many of us are transplants from a different world. In the past we have had some epic dinners. I remember these days fondly but I was always stressed out, over emotional (always at turkey carving time;)), and we were usually a bit overworked at that point of the year. This year, my strange, small blessing is to not be stressed, we ordered dinner for tomorrow from Sinclair’s Catering! What a beautiful thing! We hope that you too can find the beauty in a mini, relaxing Christmas! Though Christmas may be small, full your heart with the knowing that this will pass and we shall gather again! Hello friends! You may of heard we sold the restaurant a few months ago. This all began before Covid and came to completion with some interesting socially distant meetings! We called this wonderful space home for over a decade and are adjusting to life without The Green Door. Our team will work next summer (2021) up at Bullriver Guest Ranch to honour 2020 weddings that had to postpone. Our business is still called Green Door we just don’t actually have a green door anymore ... We are all very excited to explore our new lives, with a little less travel than expected. Thank you to everyone that passed through our doorsteps over the years, so many memories were made in that wonderful space. With that said......... Kimberley, our restaurant scene will be expanding soon! We are giddy with anticipation for a new, super cool place to eat and drink! This time of year we are usually feeding groups of hummingbird photography enthusiasts at Bull River Guest Ranch. Wow, are we missing the ranch this year! Every year hundreds of hummingbirds flock to the ranch, Gina has spent countless hours making it a wonderful place for the little guys to come. Flowers that they love, feeders everywhere and true respect to the species has made their yearly return continuously fruitful. Ty and I even have a favourite bird that hangs out nea...r the lodge with us everyday! We named him Sticky, cuz he sits on a stick To do your part and welcome the birds to your deck here in town, here are a few recommendations from Gina, the hummingbird whisperer: -Sugar water in feeders, 1 part sugar to 3 parts water, mix until dissolved. No food colouring! -Change the water when it gets cloudy and do keep the feeders clean. -Plant colourful flowers like geraniums, foxgloves, delphiniums, honeysuckle, lilac, petunias, lilies etc Hummingbirds are the jerks of the bird world, so more feeders will prevent fighting. They will literally stick their beaks in each other’s behinds, meanies You will never find hummingbird nests, they hide them very well and they are super, super tiny.
