Hia Media is the winner of the Member of the Year Award. For their outstanding advancements in utilizing recycled material in their production of signs and pri...nting. Such as re using existing signs and cutting materials out of old product. Hia Media is always trying to find the next edge in sustainability, through technological improvements, greater effeciency, and implementing sustainable protocols. They have also surpassed many of their emissions targets set with Green Economy North. This is why Hia Media is is the winner of this years Member of the Year Award.

The bans are on single-use plastics with more sustainable alternatives. We must keep working to provide more plastic-free options.

The Youth Leadership Award is going to Sophia Mathur. It's been almost two years since Sophia Mathur staged her first Fridays For Future Sudbury strike at Memor...ial Park in downtown Sudbury on November 2, 2018. Their World Environment Day Zoom rally was broadcast on an official United Nations Environment Programme webcast around the world by We Don’t Have Time and watched by tens of thousands globally. Their more recent Zoom rally event was on September 25, 2020, and it was themed "The World We Want in 2045". Over 400 youths from schools in all four local school boards took part in that event. Sophia Mathur has shown climate leadership among her peers, and is an active environmental activist. This is why she is being awarded the Youth Leadership Award Thank you Sophia!

With the Approval of the Community Energy and Emissions Plan by the City of Greater Sudbury council, businesses are going to be expected to improve their energy efficiencies by 2030. Get ahead of the curve and become a Green Economy North Member.

Plastic-Free Greater Sudbury is a community campaign founded by Liz Anawati and Micheala Penwarden-Watson in June 2018 during their graduate practicum. They turned chats about the problems surrounding single-use plastics into a marketable local solution. Platic-Free Greater Sudbury works with restaurants and cafes to help them reduce plastic. It started as a campaign to help take the pressure off individuals to reduce plastic. By working with businesses, they take the responsibility off of Sudburians. https://www.plasticfreegreatersudbury.org/

We have all seen wasteful packaging, fruit plastic-wrapped, a box that’s way too big for the product, stuffed with wasted materials, an item triple layered in plastic protection. When designing products we need to account for how much waste is being made, to build, package, transport and protect the item.
