A Year in Review: Conversations in Canoes This Fall, we brought you a four part series called Conversations in Canoes that takes a deeper dive into False Creek. Explore the ecology, day to day routine and areas at risk to sea level rise and future flooding through conversations in, you guessed it, a canoe! We covered many topics: sea level rise 101, chatted with a diver who has recovered all sorts of items in the depths of False Creek, sat down with a biologist and author ...of One Earth: People of Colour Protecting Our Planet, and met with a climate activist and Sustainabiliteen. If you haven't seen them yet, watch them here: http://ow.ly/Sc6L50CMvWt See you on the sea wall! #YearInReview #2020 #CoastalAdaptation #SeaLevelRise #ConversationsinCanoes

A Year in Review: Planting 150,000th tree since 2010 We're celebrating a major milestone! The Vancouver Park Board has achieved its target to plant 150,000 trees by 2020 only to set an ambitious new goal: to grow the urban forest canopy cover to 30% by 2050 ... In November, a grove of 11 Douglas firs was planted in New Brighton Park, achieving one of the City of Vancouver’s Greenest City Action Plan targets. Vancouver’s urban forest includes every tree in our city on streets, in parks, public spaces, and back yards. Our urban forest plays important environmental and social roles: it cleans the air, absorbs rainwater, provides bird habitat, and improves our health and well-being. The False Creek Coastal Adaptation Plan will propose future design changes to this beloved shoreline in order to mitigate future impacts of sea level rise. What do you/youth under 30 want to see incorporated? How do community values get reflected in design? Which designs work best for you, and what feedback do you have for the City? Join @cityhivevan in partnership with the @cityofvancouver next Thursday, November 26th at 5:30pm for the second phase of their youth-focused com...munity conversation on the False Creek CAP! Guest speakers will discuss the Indigenous histories of this unceded territory, explain how the CAP decision-making process works at the City, and show how community feedback is incorporated by consultants into proposed designs. There will also be time for interactive small-group design feedback and a Q&A. All attendees will be entered to win one of three $50 door prizes. Register now: http://ow.ly/UEOU50Cpykb
