Dianthus gratianopolitanus ‘Firewitch’ Cheddar Pinks is our plant of the week! Intense magenta flowers with a white center and serrated edges bloom in spring on a compact mound of blue-grey foliage. This Dianthus grows to 15 cm tall and grows best in full sun. It is hardy to zone 4 and has many beneficial features such as being drought tolerant, a pollinator attractor, salt tolerant and has a spicy fragrance. Phlox x hybrida ‘Fashionably Early Crystal’ Phlox is our plant of the week! This tall phlox features fragrant white flowers with a soft purple eye that grows to nearly a metre high. It blooms in the summer 2-3 weeks earlier than other garden phlox and reblooms in the fall. The foliage is mildew-resistant and the flowers attract many pollinators. This phlox is a hybrid cross of Phlox maculata and paniculata. It is hardy to zone 4 and requires full sun.
