Might be a good time to get serious about that energy-retrofit. On November 1, Ontario electricity costs increased. Under the new pricing, off-peak hours increased 0.3 cents to 8.3 cents per kWh, mid-peak hours increased 0.6 cents to 12.8 cents per kWh and on-peak hours increased 1.4 cents to 17.5 cents per kWh. According to the OEB the average household in Ontario uses about 800 kWh per month, electricity price increases will mean a bill increase of about $4.42 per month on ...the Electricity Line and about 3.4 per cent on the total bill. The non "Electricity Line" charges include: delivery, regulatory charges, debt retirement and HST. Good news, bad news - the "debt retirement charge" will be removed January 1, 2016 saving the average household $75.60 a year. However, the Ontario Clean Energy Benefit, which takes 10 per cent off hydro bills and saves the average household $180.00 per year will also expire on January 1.

This Wartime House Goes Green! Dear Kingscourt Home Owner The CMHC estimates that the average wartime era home has air leaks that if combined would equal a 13" x 13" hole and provides a list of recommended upgrades to reduce your energy costs by up to 47%.... This list of energy saving improvements when completed, would result in an estimated 47% reduction in your home energy costs. By my calculations a 47% savings on your Natural Gas and Hydro consumption would equal approximately $1,651.09 still in your pocket at the end of the year. On top of that - and this is what excites me - it would translate into an approximate 3.7 metric ton reduction in your annual CO2 emissions. I want to help you plug the leaks and save your money. Starting the process of saving money on your home’s energy costs can be as easy as sealing the leaks that let heat escape in the winter and let heat enter the home in summer. And, getting started is as easy as making a call - 613 561 1214 and ask for David "Greenline Sustainable Builders through our ReVision House Initiative is working to upgrade and retrofit 40's 50's and 60's era homes to achieve a 50% or better reduction in energy use for the homeowner and an equivalent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions for the planet." The bathroom may be all about cleaning, but it's one of the worst places in your home for hiding nasty chemicals, allergens, mold, bacteria, viruses, and other irritants.

Renovating Your Home To Age In Place - Financial Assistance and Renovations. The latest census figures from Statistics Canada show seniors, those aged 65 and older now represent 14.8 per cent of the population and by 2031, that number will be almost 23 per cent. The CMHC foresees a strong demand for support services and renovations to adapt homes to help seniors age in place as the population ages.... Both the CMHC and the Ontario Government offer financial assistance to seniors who want to renovate their home to remove barriers and make them more accessible. Ontario's Healthy Homes Renovation Tax Credit for seniors is worth up to $1,500 for improving accessibility within your home. Low-income seniors can apply for CMHC's Home Adaptations for Seniors' Independence (HASI) program; it provides a forgivable loan of up to $3,500 for renovations to make your home more accessible. Home owners may also be eligible for up to $16,000 under CMHC's Residential Rehabilitation Assistance Program for Persons with Disabilities (RRAP - Disabilities). We offer a range of renovation services geared to making your home barrier free and more accessible. Typical projects: Installing bathroom grab bars, a low-threshold shower, a higher toilet, more accessible kitchen cabinetry, lower counters, wider doorways and entrance way or wheelchair ramps and decks.
