Hello from Elie! We're Britt and Justin of Hearts & Roots and we're thrilled to be the first Direct Farm Manitoba takeover farm! This is a great way to get to k...now Manitoban farms a bit better and learn what the land stewards of this province are up to! We manage 20 acres of land and farm four acres of organic vegetables just outside of Elie, 45 minutes from downtown Winnipeg. We farm on Treaty 1 Territory, the traditional territory of the Anishinaabe, Cree and Dakota Peoples and the Homeland of the Métis Nation. With the help of two wonderful employees, we grow produce for CSA, a bustling downtown farmers’ market, and restaurants and stores. We both farm full time during the season and and are hoping to be able to extend our season this year so that we can rely less on casual work in the off-season.
