One in seven grade 7-12 students say they harmed themselves on purpose. One in six had serious thoughts of suicide. Suicide is the second leading cause of death for people aged 15 to 24. COVID is accelerating a growing epidemic of depression and despair among youth and we've got to figure it out.

The Premier is making it easier to hand out permits for reckless development in wetlands and floodplains. This will undoubtedly make flood risks worse, on top of the escalating impacts from climate change. We've known for a long time that building on floodplains is dangerous, as Brampton learned in 1948. That's why Ontario entrusted conservation authorities to protect us. Now Doug Ford is taking power away from conservation authorities and opening the door to more flood events like this.

Ford's latest power grab will make flooding worse and local mayors know it. They'll be the ones cleaning up the damage caused by building on floodplains. Greens want to Build Back Smarter. Conservatives want to Build Back Recklessly. The distinction couldn't be more clear. They want to ignore science and pave over more wetlands, undoing the rules put in place to protect us from flooding. This will cost us.
