Cannabis oil is obtained by separating the plant’s resins from its flowers using an extraction process. Freshly harvested, raw cannabis plants contain cannabinoids in an acidic form (THCA and CBDA). These acids are also extracted from the plants in the oil-making process and need to be activated through decarboxylation to convert them into THC and CBD the extract’s medicinal properties.

GRx products are completely manufactured in our faculty in Puslinch, ON. From seedling to packaging, the entire process is overseen by only a handful of people. Seedlings are started from our Mother plants and grown with careful attention by our Cultivation Team led by Tim. Once harvested, the Oil Team, led by Glenn, will take over and refine the oil products. All our oils are pure cannabis extracts mixed with an MCT carrier oil. Courtney and Justin from the GR Packaging team will ensure proper labels are put on and the final quality check is conducted.

When consuming a purified oil, it must be manufactured with sustainable best practices without the use of synthetic fertilizers and pesticides. If the cannabis plant is grown with additives, this will be present in the oil. Green Relief uses organic pesticides and natural fertilizers in our growing techniques. Each batch of cannabis is tested for pesticides, microbes, heavy metals, solvent residues and other contaminants by a third party, leaving the client with the purest refined oils.

Ensuring the health of our fish, and plants is a balancing act that requires ongoing testing to maintain an optimal ecosystem for both to thrive. That’s why our aquaponics team conducts frequent water tests for nitrogen-based compounds and other essential system nutrients. Not only does water testing inform our team of the ecosystem’s overall function, but it also lets us know how much waste our fish produce, which in turn, converts into nutrients for our plants to grow.

A peek into our lab where our oil team is tapping the raw cannabis extract from supercritical CO2 extraction. From here, raw extracts go through a process known as winterization. Winterization uses pharmaceutical-grade ethanol, cold temperatures, and filtration to separate lipids, fats, and waxes from active ingredients cannabinoids and terpenes. The team then removes the ethanol and further refines the extracts to become our botanical cannabis oils and CBD isolate products.
