Social procurement is a viable solution! Social procurement is essentially looking at ways to get the most social value for the money already planned on spending and making it standard practice at the federal level. To leverage the dollars already being spent on procurement to help reduce poverty, improve the environment and advance equity is one way to achieve smart growth and reduce the social deficit. http://www.imaginecanada.ca//policy-pr/social-procurement

Thank-you to Mayor Dawn Arnold and the Moncton City Council for the warm reception and kind words of support for our program, Green Trade. I am excited that City Council is going to revisit there current procurement policies, looking at adding social value to the dollars we spend as a community. #socialenterprise #socialimpact #spendwise #greentrade
Social Economy.....we all have a role to play in it. As individuals we buy locally.....as a municipality, province, and nation, we require our leaders to commit a set percentage of their spending to actively purchasing goods and services from our local social enterprise efforts. http://www.msvu.ca/socialeconomyatlantic/English/whatisE.asp
What a great Day! I had the privilege of seeing the great work being done at the Social Enterprise HUB in Saint John. They have developed a collaborative working culture, all geared towards poverty reduction. The highlight was seeing the work of Catapult, a program like Green Trade, helping to build skills in youth and others who have barriers to employment. They are rebuilding this derelict house, revitalizing Saint John and providing a low-income condo. It's amazing to see what can be accomplished when one vision has full selfless buy-in from several like-minded organizations.
