This weekend GFD had the unique opportunity to assist the Kings County 4x4 club with the Thunder in the Valley 4X4 rally. GFD members were on hand to provide first aid and logistical support to the event. A huge thank you to all the members who assisted over the 2 days, dedicating over 250 volunteer hours. As always the event did not disappoint with many thrills and spills to entertain the crowd! A special thanks to Go Powersports for providing us with an awesome Can-Am ATV for use as a rapid response unit during the weekend!

A few weeks back GFD was approached by a family member of a teacher at St. Brendan School in Los Angeles, California with a unique request. Their local fire service was unable to provide them with a talk for their kindergarten class on fire prevention this year due to the wildfire situation in the area. They asked us if we would be willing to step up and take on the task virtually, we of course said yes. This Afternoon FF Haley Craig and FF Jennifer Parrish provided the clas...s with a virtual tour of our station, as well as a demonstration of firefighter PPE during their fire prevention talk. The students and staff we’re so impressed by the talk they sent an email afterwards to thank the members for the presentation: I can not thank the firefighters profusely enough!! We were blown away by your presentation. You absolutely smashed it out of the park! The kids were riveted. Stacy, our head teacher, can't stop talking about how cool it was to have two female firefighters do the presentation! Now all the girls in our class want to be firefighters

This evening we continued a 6 week block of vehicle extrication training with our mutual aid partners at Port Williams Fire Department. Tonight’s session focused on door pops and side removals. The training helps to familiarize both departments not only with extrication techniques but each department’s capabilities to allow seamless joint response when required.
