THROWBACK THURSDAY! Today’s throwback is thanks to Mother Nature who decided we needed to go back to winter for a day or two. After several unseasonably warm days, many newly- budded plants brave yesterday’s snow. I am confident they will bounce back and bright spring days will be upon us once again. Happy Earth Day!

THROWBACK THURSDAY Francis J Nobbs, known as Frank to his family, was the younger brother of Phoebe born in 1912. Did you know that Frank was an architect just like his dad, Percy? After receiving a B.Arch. from McGill University in 1936, he joined the architectural firm of Fetherstonhaugh and McDougall prior to his serving in the Second World War. Upon his return from service in 1945, Frank became a partner in his father's practice, and in 1960 set up his own practice. He served as the president of the Province of Quebec Association of Architects in 1963 and 1965. Frank Nobbs passed away in 2000.

THROWBACK THURSDAY: Thanks to Sandy Racicot-Day, a member of Greenwood's board, who posted this wonderful memory-photo today. It's a beautiful fresh fruit and flower arrangement created by the incomparable Kathryn Lamb for an Old Fashioned Christmas event from yesteryear. Over the years, Kathryn and a spectacular team have done a marvelous job decorating the whole house with gorgeous bouquets, festive sprays and classic window treatments for this magical annual holiday event. We held it virtually this year due to Covid, but had a great turn-out and a super line-up of wonderful local talent which got everyone into the holiday spirit! Thank you, Sandy for this pretty reminder! In these strange circumstances, it's a good idea to take time and smell the roses (or the clementines!).

THROW BACK THURSDAY! Phoebe and her little brother Frank all bundled up like sweet lambs during a winter walk in the woods. Circa 1912 or 1913; no further details are included with the print. Here's hoping that you're taking a few restorative winter walks too (even if you don't have your own wooly outfit to do so!)

A glimpse from inside the house at Greenwood looking out to the frosty world beyond. Remember those summer days when it was so hot that we searched for shade in the garden and cooled our feet in the river? Each season needs to be savoured for all it has to offer. Be well!

THROWBACK THURSDAY! Since Greenwood was primarily used as a summer residence, we have few photos of the Shepherd family during the winter months. But here is a sweet picture of Phoebe and their father Percy Nobbs, along with her little brother Frank on their mother Cecil's lap, at their home on Belvedere Ave. in Westmount. The caption on our archival print says "On the balcony in fur c. 1914". Phoebe would have been about 5 years old. Stay warm on this chilly February day - even if you choose not to wear fur in 2021!

Winter at Greenwood. Quieter than in summer but always stately especially with a fresh layer of snow.
