"Today, B.C.R.D.H. is the parent of two regional aggregate collections: Digitized Okanagan History (2017 - present) and Kootenay/Columbia Digitized History (2019 - present). Together, these aggregate collections represent historical, primary source, and archival materials housed in community heritage institutions throughout the Okanagan, Shuswap, Similkameen, Boundary, West Kootenay, East Kootenay, and Columbia regions of British Columbia’s southern interior. Our goal is to work collaboratively with partner organizations to improve access to a wide range of local historical resources through digitization."

These are some of my favourite photos from the Greenwood museum, especially the bar room of the Pioneer Hotel. In fact I believe the museum has a replica displ...ay of this very scene. What I like is the two posters advertising the local breweries, the Elkhorn in Greenwood and the Silver Spring from Anaconda. Today, every small town and centre in BC seems to have their own craft brewery. Is it time for Greenwood? It's not like there isn't ideal commercial property available in the downtown core! Location Location Location! Incidentally, the Pioneer Hotel (one of Greenwood's originals) failed to renew its liquor licence and was torn down around 1913 in order to build the new post office that we see today. See more

What do museums mean to you? What do you love about museums and want to see more of? How do they need to evolve to better meet your needs and serve Canadians into the future? Help us answer these important questions. The Museums for Me engagement campaign is an initiative undertaken by a consortium of museum associations from across Canada, with support from the Government of Canada. LEST WE FORGET. . . . . . The contribution of women during wartime!. . . . Our cousin, Dora Blanche Lawder (1893-1985), arrived in the Boundary District when she was three years old with her father, mother, and younger brother. Dora was born in Manitoba, grew up in Greenwood and surrounding district, moved to Victoria in 1907, at age 14 years. Wartime changed the trajectory of Dora's life: both her father and brother joined the CEF in Victoria; her fiance was killed in action in 1916; Mrs. Lawder returned to England with Dora after her husband and son shipped out. Dora joined the British Red Cross in the Voluntary Aid Detachments (VADs), date of engagement: November 1, 1917 to August 23, 1919. Both her father and brother survived the first world war and were discharged to England. The family never returned to Canada.

This is a chunk of change for a potential artifact that belongs in a museum collection. Maybe someday.

We have heard through the grapevine of two observances tomorrow at Phoenix Cenotaph and at the Cenotaph in Greenwood. Here is background of the men who are listed at Phoenix. Kettle Valley has been cancelled and the cenotaph at Beaverdell also has nothing official happening - just asking people to stop by and pay respects.

A neat early 1900s pic of Phoenix near Greenwood, BC. The town boomed and died all with in a span of 25 years! BC Archives.

At the AGM last September, of the British Columbia Historical Federation, Wendy Wickwire's presented Public History: Between the Professionals and the People. With so many people involved in history who aren't academics, there is much to discover about each other.
