The benefits of sunshine in our lives is endless. I hope everyone is finding some in theirs.

Practice makes perfect. In Epsiode 9 of our How-To Series, Greg Hill and Chris Rubens discuss basic avalanche scenarios and rescue techniques. From what to do i...f you're caught to the techniques used in a "fine search," know before you go. As always, please don’t forget to take a class from a certified avalanche instructor before going into the backcountry. #howto #TimeToPlay #safetyfirst

Yesterday we had a fantastic day soaking in the vitamin D. The day was amazing, perfect. But a growing sense that I was pushing into bigger terrain than I had decided I wanted to get into had me turn around. The challenge of telling my friends to go on without me, that for whatever reason I didn’t feel it, was hard. Things didn’t feel like they would go wrong, simply that I was going against a plan I had made with myself. I watched @christinalusti and @_seancochrane continue on and thoroughly enjoyed the day. Except for the nagging feeling that I had let them down.

As we approached our line yesterday I could tell that there was/or had been a wind event. There was uneven distribution of snow and the trees didn’t have any snow piled on them even though it has snowed 20-40 over the last couple of days. So there had to have been some loading into the start zone of this couloir. I needed to remove this hanging hazard before skiing it. So i jumped around and ski cut the top till I removed the hazard. It was not a huge slide but if this had been behind me it could have cause some trouble. Keep questioning and playing safe in the mountains.

After this tumultuous summer, some of the pure moments of skiing are needed. Salomon has got a series of new short films coming this fall that will make you want to shrug off this summer, dust off your skis, and dream. #TimeToPlay

Due to the weirdness of the world I have had only a few good alpine adventures this summer. Thankfully @andrew_mcnab joined me on this long and involved technical walking day.

In late 2019, Salomon unveiled the concept for a shoe that could be disassembled and recycled at the end of its life. Now, after years of research and development, the recyclable Index.01 running shoe is a reality. THE DESIGN Index.01 is made completely from:... - The bottom unit is made from a Thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) and foam called INFINIRIDE -The upper is made of recycled polyester. - Designed for road running, the INFINIRIDE foam delivers shock absorption and the rockered sole helps propel the runner forward with a quick transition, so you spend less time on the ground. RECYCLING THE INDEX.01 - The recycling process is a collective effort with our community. - Print a free shipping label with the designed shipping address on salomon.com, then send the shoes to the closest collection centers in Europe, North America, and Asia/Pacific regions. - Materials will be washed, separated and ground down separately into tiny pellets. Then recycled. - The materials recycled in Europe will be combined with virgin TPU to make Salomon alpine ski boots for the 2022 winter range. - The polyester upper recycled in the other regions will be turned into yarn used to weave fabric and create other products. SHIPPING THE INDEX.01 - There will be no stuffing paper used inside the shoes and no extra hangtags. In fact, starting with the Spring 2021 season, all Salomon footwear uses FSC certified packaging. The Index.01 will be released in the Spring of 2021! Register here to get notified when the Index.01 will be available for purchase: http://www.salomon.com/index01 Cedric Corroy / Lumento Films #PlayMinded

This should be a fun talk, a wander down memory lane or skin track searching out a few of the iconic ski spots and the cool trips I had there. Is one better than another? Tune in on Thursday to find out. I hope see you there.

Sometimes to get perspective on your life you need to view yourself through the eyes of others!!

The resiliency of our intricate global food system will be tested this year, so I am doing my best to grow my own food. This beautiful cauliflower was started from seed and is now planted in my garden. These actions are empowering in this time of isolation as well as environmental as I am decreasing my families footprint. As well as drawing less off the system and helping it get back to working smoothly again.

Through covid I have recognized the strength of community and how we will weather the uncertainty better as a team. One of my first actions has been to push Revelstokians to garden more, to strengthen our food insecurity. As most of us are stuck on our properties this act is also empowering and gives us daily purpose. Which led me to bring in a big load of dirt for our new and old garden beds. Today was the first loads of many, I hope this grows lots of vegetables for all these great people!

I do believe that there will be lots of positives that come out of these times. As it makes me reflect on my life and what I am learning during this.. this is a quote from an article on medium by @juliovincentgambuto

Isolated here in beautiful british columbia I find the pandemic to be really far away, almost intangible and it feels easy to question the strict rules. But reading Pierres story and also knowing how bad ass he is, really brought home the severity. Stay home and stay healthy.

I enjoyed this thoughful piece from Suunto If we can ascend the highest mountains, and run ultra marathons, we can certainly make the most of this temporary situation for the greater good. Stay safe. Stay home. Stay strong.

Hey what are you doing at 5 pm tonight? Join me for a beer and a story, or a fireside chat. Life is uncertain right now and we might as well share our stories and thoughts on how to get through it easier. Grab a beer, some wine or water and lets chat. @arcteryx https://zoom.us/j/579146804

I am not sure where you live or what your thoughts are about the future but here in Revelstoke we are looking at realistic actions we can take to empower ourselves and have a better future.
