One thing I’ve learned from the black creature in the middle, is to expand my thinking of what is possible. We do get stuck in our mental models of how we should interact with others. Originally, 10 years ago, I treated him as a cat - it didn’t work. He would never get into a cat crate. Once I realized, I could treat him differently, like a dog (though he would hate that comparison) our whole life changed. He loves sitting on the console, or at the window, looking out as life drives by. (He even knows how to open the window and put his head out!)

#ChangeHack: Build Trust by Owning Your Mistakes Think about your behaviors as actions, not as a part of your identity. What you do is not who you are.... Actions can be changed. Who you are cannot be. There are few things worse for a staff member during change than when their colleagues or boss doesn't own up to their mistakes. When this happens, trust gets broken. Don't be afraid to apologize and take action to improve the consequences of past and potentially negative decisions. This builds trust with people whether at work (or at home!).
