Grateful to everyone who came out and showed support... for the campaign and so glad to have a lot of my campaign team there! Special thanks to Brendan & Niall Hickey and the whole team The Newfoundland Embassy! So blessed to have your support and glad to have had such an amazing venue! Healthy Living/Wellness & Age Friendly St. John’s Advocate for upgrades to outdoor and indoor recreation facilities Advocate to make St. John’s a more ped...estrian friendly city, the benefits are both economic and personal health driven. Some of the things I would advocate for are (proper lighting in areas, traffic calming solutions, accessible sidewalks and stairs for all) making sure our sidewalks, lane ways and trails are accessible all year round for the safety and efficiency of all citizens including seniors Work to fast track the implementation of Bike St. John’s Master Plan Advocate for bike racks in green spaces & city parks all year round. Work with businesses and leasing companies to install bike racks outside their business and properties (ie strips malls, supermarkets) Utilization and promotion of green space, to help promote use as outdoor spaces especially in areas like the downtown core that lack green space around people’s property Work with our seniors on recreational programs they would like to see implemented Affordable Housing Make sure the St. John’s 10 Year Affordable Housing Strategy is followed Advocate that all new affordable housing buildings have universal design at the forefront Address the need for affordable housing for single persons Address the issue of multi bedroom affordable housing units being occupied by single people is thought over and retrofitted (ie - turning 4-bedroom houses into 2, 1-bedroom apartments) Work with developers to include more affordable housing in new developments Work with multiple levels of government, CMHC and local organizations for additional units in our city. Make sure committees include people with personal experience with affordable housing, either living currently or formerly within them
