In 1993, Julia Child was the first woman inducted into the Culinary Institute of America's Hall of Fame. 1993. A mere 28 years ago. A drop in the hat in the course of history. I’ve always found this quite odd as women have been taking care of kitchens since the beginning of time. You would be hard pressed to walk into any kitchen, in any house, in any corner of the world and not know that that kitchen is kept up and run by a woman. That the heart and soul of the household i...s built by the woman that is taking care of the kitchen. The cooking, the cleaning and the organizational skills that are done there is by a woman. The food that goes on the table was cooked by the woman of the house. That she runs that house. Since the beginning of time women have been cooking and feeding families. Sustaining them and giving them life. Yes, the food was usually gathered by the men in the household, no doubt about that, but it was the women that cooked it and clean up and maintained the kitchen. Rationed and inventoried to ensure that there was always enough to feed all. It took until 1993 for that to be acknowledged. For a woman to have finally proven that she does indeed know how to cook. Quite silly when you think of it. I would like to imagine that Julia must have been having a little inside chuckle to herself when she was inducted. See more

Saturday will be our last evening for our patio dining service. At Greta Solomon’s we are and will continue to be a place that respects the dining experience. We can no longer do this at this time and we know in our hearts that we have to continue to do our part to ensure the safety of our team and our guests. ... As much of a financial burden that it will be to close, it is not logical or sensible for the people that we have elected into power to believe that Canadian outdoor dining with no shelter is a feasible or viable option. I’m most sure that none of them would ask their employees to open a bottle of wine or clean a plate with Thinsulate gloves on and wearing a parka, scarf, mask and a toque. I’m not going to ask mine to do it either. For the near future we will be open for takeout (menu updates to come) and we will be posting shortly our days that we will be open for Solomon’s Cellar and Wine purchases. Please keep an eye out for our Christmas Baskets that will be available soon!
