While we’re sure none of you are operating your cell phones while driving or checking your phone at a red light, we thought we would remind you that many insurance companies consider a distracted driving ticket to be a MAJOR conviction rather than a minor, which it was in the past. Having a major conviction on your record will automatically disqualify you from the regular market. You will be considered high risk, which means a much higher premium. So, when you hear that DIN...G! coming from your phone, just remember it’s not worth the thousands is going to cost you for those 3 years that ticket remains on your driving record. Stay safe!

We're pretty excited here at Grand River Insurance Brokers that the (shortened) MLB season has started. Let's hope our Toronto Blue Jays can make the most of this 60 game season. Certainly a welcome distraction during this difficult time. Let's play ball!

As many of you are aware, most insurance companies provided COVID-19 premium relief on personal auto policies with reduced usage for a period of up to 90 days from the date you requested the relief. The 90 day period is starting to come to an end, which means insurance companies are reinstating the pre-COVID usage, which for most includes a commute. This means a slight increase in your premium to add back the increased usage. In order to ensure you're getting the correct rate, if you are still out of work, or even back at work but just driving less each year, please contact your broker to make any adjustments. Thank you and please continue to stay safe!

Thankyou! During this difficult time, we often forget to thank those around who have and are continuing to support us. First to my staff, they have been absolute superstars through this, the workload was close to double, with relief measures (endorsements and nsf's) as well as renewals and the usual day to day, not to mention working from home. ... Now we are back in the office, is it the same? No. Will it work? Yes. We, as most businesses will have to do, we have and will continue to adapt. Secondly, I I would like to thank our amazing clients. You all have been so understanding and positive throughout this. While we all are going through these times together, its easier to get through when two positives meet. (Unlike in electricity..) What the future holds, none of us know, but I know this. I am extremely happy to call Grand River Insurance Brokers my work family and look forward to growing with it in the coming years. (Grand River can grow, my belly can stop anytime...) Michael

From the Presidents Folding Table.... A number of measures have recently been taken by insurance companies to help you with your premiums. From NSF Fee forgiveness and moving payments to giving discounts for those no longer commuting during the pandemic. Some companies have made the discount across the board to all costumers and others have identified those affected. Either way, should you have any questions or concerns during this time, please reach out and contact us. We're here, just from home. Stay Safe, Stay Healthy.

From the presidents folding table.... I truly hope and pray for the safety of all through this unprecedented time. I learned today that the Chickasaw and Choctaw Nations are challenging a claim denial in court regarding COVID-19 and the loss of revenue brought with it. Generally speaking, this is largely an uninsurable event. However, as brokers we do not have the authority to deny claims. We believe it is in our client’s best interests if they have had an impact on their ...business and have the coverage, to report it and let the insurance company come back with a formal decision on coverage. An additional reason is that it may offer some assistance with having a denial letter from the insurance company, if our business clients are trying to recover from some government relief program or for a decision that could be in their favour down the road as a result of the court proceedings.

While our office remains closed to the public, our staff are now all set up to work remotely from home. We are available Monday-Friday, 9am-4:30pm to assist our clients with their policies and any questions they may have. Please note that at this time, we will not be taking on new clients or business. Once this changes, we will let you know. Also, we are unable to accept cash, money order or cheques for payments. Helpful Tip when Purchasing A New (or New-to-You) Vehicle: We here at Grand River Insurance Brokers know how exciting it can be when you get a new (or new-to-you) vehicle and we want to make sure the correct steps are taken to ensure the vehicle is properly added to your policy. Sometimes it's your first time purchasing from a dealership and you may think that the dealership takes care of everything, including insurance. However, that is not the case. When you're getting ...a new vehicle, your first call after the deal is done, but before you get the vehicle, should be to your insurance broker. Simply supplying the dealership with your insurance policy number does not mean that the vehicle will be insured. You must speak directly to your broker. In many instances, most of the information required by your broker can be obtained by simply putting your broker in touch with the dealership. Of course, your broker will go over coverages and usage details with you, but information such as VIN number, final purchase prices, and financing info can all be supplied by the dealership. The broker will then be able to supply the dealership with the required Confirmation of Insurance, along with a copy of your liability (pink) slip. You are then free to enjoy your new wheels!
