Very excited to bring some of the funniest improvisers from our southern neighbour Calgary! The Kinkonauts players are a rag-tag group of Calgary improvisers, each with over five years of performance experience. This troupe of quirky characters are dedicated to delighting audiences and creating one-of-a-kind performances. The crew formed the Sketchonauts comedy troupe in the summer of 2019 and performed two sold-out revues filled with quirky characters, dark humour, outrageous scenery, and just plain weird comedy.
The Bloody Mary’s are coming! Say it again and again! The Bloody Marys is a hit improv and sketch comedy duo known for their fast paced, dramatic and oft gory style. Made up of Second City Toronto Main Stage Alumnae Kirsten Rasmussen and Leigh Cameron, The Bloody Marys have appeared in festivals across Canada and the US, including the Vancouver International Improv Fest, the Ottawa Improv Festival, Big City Improv inToronto, the Stumptown and All Jane Festivals in Portland, Oregon and Montreal’s Zoofest/off JFL. They are also very proud to have won the Bad Dog Theatre Company’s coveted 2017 Globe Head Trophy.
We’re still going ahead as scheduled this May! Here’s what Grindstone Theatre is doing to make sure our venue is healthy and safe for everyone.
Who’s pumped to see Jon Blair this May? We are!!! You should be too! Jon is one of Toronto’s most accomplished solo sketch comedians, Jon Blair has performed at Just For Laughs, the Halifax Fringe, and sketch festivals in Toronto, Philadelphia, New York and Montreal, where he recently became the first solo act to win Best of the Fest in 2019. He currently writes for CBC Radio’s Because News and has written on 5 seasons of This Hour Has 22 Minutes. Jon Blair packs an entire sketch troupe's worth of eccentric characters, maddening plot twists, strange stories and high drama into the weary yet brave frame of a single man.
We are so excited to screening the groundbreaking documentary Mayor of Comedy at the festival this year! . THE MAYOR OF COMEDY is an eye-opening documentary that follows Sandra as she rallies the biggest names in the Canadian comedy industry in an effort to address the many challenges they face. Sandra and filmmaker Matt Kelly give viewers an all-access pass to the murky world of Canadian showbiz, a world where the funniest people in the country struggle and the industry str...ives to keep it that way. The film features interviews with dozens of Canada’s top comics including Scott Thompson (Kids In The Hall), Steve Patterson (The Debaters), Debra DiGiovanni (Conan), Mark Forward (Fargo), DeAnne Smith (Just For Laughs) K-Trevor Wilson (Letterkenny) and Grindstone Fest’s very own Kathleen McGee!
