Who's been wearing shorts this week? Spring seems to have arrived in Southern Ontario (though I say that with caution as I very well know what can take place in April). And with that, more people out and about, enjoying the sunshine, some even wearing shorts. The arrival of more daylight, warmer temperatures, and sunnier days can often give us a big boost of energy. And can catapult us out of hibernation and into action. ... We may dive head-first into spring cleaning binges. Or outdoor projects that were put on hold during the winter. Or perhaps we may re-start outdoor activities that we haven't done for a few months, such as running, tennis, soccer, etc. These are wonderful things to get back into - decluttering our spaces, moving our bodies, and getting fresh air and sunlight on our skin again. But I have something for you to consider. And that is that the change of seasons is a time of transition. The leaves don't appear overnight. The grass doesn't get green over a weekend. The weather doesn't stabilize over a couple weeks. And so I invite you to embrace this new energy and then be gradual with it. Resume the activities you haven't done in months gradually. Tackle that outdoor project gradually. Spread that spring cleaning over a few weekends. Instead of catapulting out of hibernation with our newfound energy, I invite you to walk. Consider taking time to listen to your body as you move it in these ways again. Perhaps enjoy some time being still absorbing that warming sunshine. And if you don't feel like busting out of your house in shorts to go for a run, that's totally ok too. These are the type of topics my clients and I dive deep into in my 1 to 1 program. We work on building sustainable habits that increase energy, and keep it there year-round. If you’re feeling intrigued by this, send me a DM saying ‘spring!’ and I’ll take it from there.

It wasn't long ago that I found it hard to find the energy to exercise before or after work. The nature of my work meant I was physically + mentally drained after work. And I couldn't see myself getting through my workday if I used up energy exercising beforehand. ... I didn't like how this felt given that I enjoyed exercise and I was constantly encouraging others to move more. Over the years I've found ways to move past this by: Joining teams where I was held accountable for showing up, where the social perks were a draw, as was the competition. Doing a little bit at a time so I felt energized but not exhausted before work, or could find enough energy to do some form of movement after work. And things that I actually enjoyed! Setting attainable goals - running a race, trying a triathlon, improving my swim technique. And bonus tip: finding a friend to do it alongside. I was lucky to be living with a triathlon champ in New Zealand who not only leant me her equipment and gear, but also her training expertise. Friends like these are such a great source of motivation + inspiration. Interested in having more motivation to do the things you’d like to do in your day to day? Exercise or otherwise? My 1-1 program covers exactly this. If you're feeling intrigued, send me a DM saying ‘motivation!’ and I’ll take it from there

Welcome to Daylight Savings! In order to help us transition into this time change, I'll be leading an Unwinding Session TONIGHT on my instagram page (link below). 9:30 PM EDT ... I'll be guiding us through a few gentle exercises and helping us calm our mind and body before heading to bed. I recommend getting as much of your bedtime routine done first before taking part in this unwinding session. That way you can head straight to bed in your most relaxed state. See you soon! https://www.instagram.com/grounded.susan/
