ACEs are Adverse Childhood Experiences and they affect the way our brains develop, and how we interact with the world! At G.R.O.W. we aim to empower patients to know their ACE scores, learn new skills and parent their children from a place of conscious thought rather than reacting to their own past experiences. To do this, our team at G.R.O.W. has to know about their own ACE scores and how that may affect their lives - both at work and at home. This article was interestin...g because it really highlights that we all struggle with the same kinds of things - and our team at G.R.O.W. is no exception! When we say "put your own oxygen mask on before helping someone else" - we know first hand how important it is. So if you are struggling, know that you are not alone - but also know that you have control over how you react and how you parent. What we experience in early life is not our fault, but how we move forward from that is our choice, and our responsibility to do the work to heal. It is hard, but worth it (we know, we've been there!). Happy Wednesday! <3 https://acestoohigh.com//lesson-learned-integrating-aces-/

Meet our team at G.R.O.W.! Here is the first in a series of posts where we introduce you to the different care providers and staff! We will start it off with our Founder and Medical Director - Dr. Brenna Kaschor. Dr. Kaschor is a Family Doctor and believes that the first 5 years of life are the most important, and that families should be well supported during this time to make sure that their children get the best start in life. Having two kids of her own she knows first han...d how hard those years can be! You can usually find her on one of the poofs working on the next program for GROW or reading a scientific article, or hanging from a tree / anything else that she can climb on. She believes that play and connection are so important for every one of us and tries to get those pieces into her own life as often as she can. On top of her MD, PhD and designation in family medicine (CCFP) she is working towards her IBCLC certification planning to write her exam by the end of 2021. Next up: Dr. Mia Sethna - Pediatrician! Although it is important for us to keep everyone safe during this pandemic, doing that can cause challenges when it keeps partners or support people away from families in the postpartum period. If you are struggling please reach out. Having a baby is hard, but doing it alone is near impossible! Call us at 519-878-8621 or any of the other great resources available in our area! "A groundbreaking new study has shown that traumatic or stressful events in childhood may lead to tiny changes in key brain structures that can now be identified decades later. The study is the first to show that trauma or maltreatment during a child’s early yearsa well-known risk factor for developing mental health conditions such as major depressive disorder in adulthoodtriggers changes in specific sub-regions of the amygdala and the hippocampus." https://www.ualberta.ca//traumatic-stress-in-childhood-can
