I don’t drive very much and I never go out if it’s snowing so I only need all season tires. This is what we still hear from the occasional customer who calls us looking for a price on tires this time of year. So we thought we’d explain why we recommend winter tire or an all weather tire over and all season even if you don’t drive much in the winter time. DIFFERENCE #1... All-weather tires offer winter safety and reliability.All-weather tires bear the designated mountain snowflake winter tire symbol so you know they’ve passed requirements to be considered safe for severe winter conditions in Canada. All-season tires don’t.These tires offer safe performance only in spring, summer and fall. DIFFERENCE #2 All-weather tires deliver precise braking.All-weather tires use a special rubber compound that stays flexible at temperatures above and below 7 C for superior stability and grip on everything from bare asphalt to fresh snow. All-seasons don’t. These tires use a rubber compound that gets cold and hard at temperatures below 7 C. They can take up to 30 meters longer to stop on smooth ice, even at just -1 C, where thin layers of water make the road slippery. DIFFERENCE #3 All-weather tires give you superior grip and cornering control.All-weather tires have an aggressive tread pattern with thick, chunky tread blocks to bite ice and snow for reliable winter grip and stability. All-seasons don’t. They have a tread pattern designed for comfort and fuel economy: small, smooth tread blocks that slide on snow and ice. DIFFERENCE #4 All-weather tires prevent slushplaning and hydroplaning. Wide channels and grooves capture and push away water and slush so your tires always have a strong contact patch with the road. Slushplaning is the second most dangerous driving condition. All-season tires don’t. The thin channels of all-season tires clog with snow and slush in the winter, creating a slippery, unsafe surface. Have you ever wondered how many winter driving accidents could’ve been avoided if everyone just used all weather or winter tires?
Did you know there is actually a tire that is rated for all 4 seasons in Canada? The term all season has sent an unrealistic message to consumers. All season is truly only a 3 season tire no matter how little you drive in the winter. They are not designed for temperatures below 7C. However there is an option for a tire that may get you through all 4 seasons depending on your driving habits. ALL-WEATHER TIRES... All-Weather tires are designed to handle the roads during any season. Combining the benefits of both All-Season and Snow tires, All-Weather tires cover you throughout the year meaning they meet the standard for winter use while still being usable for spring, summer, and autumn. All-weather tires carry the Transport Canada pictograph of mountain peaks containing several snowflakes. This logo indicates these tires pass the test as a snow/winter tire. They can be left on the car all year round. Keep in mind that All-Weather tires are ideal for people who live in a milder winter climate. Winter tires will still outperform All-Weather tires in snow. Would an all weather tire work for your winter driving habits or would you still feel safer with a true winter only tire?
A little silly to start your Saturday!! We are open today from 9am-1pm. Cody and Marcus are rocking it out in the shop and are looking forward to hearing from you for all your winter tire needs!! 902-883-1190
