Paul Sullivan has enjoyed a richly varied and distinguished career as a composer and pianist. As a soloist, with his trio, and as a long-time member of the Paul Winter Consort, Paul has played concerts throughout the world and on the stages of some of the finest concert halls. He has performed in some of New York's most prestigious jazz clubs and even in ...the living room of Leonard Bernstein. He has worked with countless musical greats including the legendary Benny Goodman, and has performed with prestigious orchestras such as the Philadelphia Orchestra under Eugene Ormandy and the Boston Pops under Arthur Fiedler. Paul has also worked as a musical director, pianist, and/or conductor for many Off-Broadway and Broadway shows. He played keyboards and shared the conducting duties for the original production of the musical Nine, which won a Tony Award for Best Musical. Some of the other shows hes worked on include Cats, A Chorus Line, Rags, and a cabaret with the great comedian, Lewis Black. Paul's many original compositions and recordings have garnered rave reviews and earned him three Indie awards. One reviewer describes his work as combining "seeds from Chopin, Debussy, Gershwin, even Bach, that are not derivative from their music, but rather a flight suggesting their individual styles laced with sexy jazz commentary. Learn more about our talented artists who are coming to Perth next month! Eugene Friesen on cello, is a long-time member of the great world music troupe, the multi-Grammy Award-winning Paul Winter Consort. He has performed worldwide with numerous other celebrated musicians (e.g., Dave Brubeck, Toots Thielemans, Will Ackerman), is an artist-in-residence at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in Manhattan (the world's largest Gothic church), and is a faculty member at the reno...wned Berklee School of Music in Boston. Joel Martin on piano, is the founder of Jazzical, described as an explosive union of classical composition and jazz innovation ignited with a fresh spirit all its own. In 1985 he became the youngest pianist ever and the first African-American to perform in the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. He has performed widely internationally and with a tremendous diversity of artists, from Brazilian jazz masters to top gospel singers to the great soprano, Kathleen Battle. Brothers from different mothers, Eugene Friesen and Joel Martin offer an intimate, joyful, and emotional musical conversation that is both original and authentic. Their first recording is the 2018 CD, A Perfect Sunday, featuring original music and interpretations of great composers, all in the Jazzical vein. In concert, Friesen and Martin "are energetic, free-wheeling and improvisational while also showcasing the respect for musical tradition that each has mastered."
