It’s National Medical Laboratory Week. Let’s hear it for the health care professionals who work behind the scenes to help diagnose everything from cancer to diabetes to COVID-19. #TakeACloserLook at all they do: https://www.indigolabcoat.ca/
One year ago today, a health care worker died from complications of COVID-19, his death marks the first health care worker in Ontario to die from this disease. Our flag has been lowered to half-mast to honour all health care workers that have lost their lives to COVID-19. Despite the risks, health care personnel have sacrificed a lot this past year for their chosen professions. Thank you for your continued dedication, care and compassion you provide to our patients.
From us to you, have a Happy Easter.
Not sure what to get for lunch or dinner today? Look no further! Grab a Teen Burger from A&W Fergus and $2 from each burger will go to support Groves! Today only - don't miss out.
Wayne Perrin, long-time Groves volunteer, accepted a donation from a very thoughtful community member, Lisa Winkler. Lisa reached out to the Foundation asking if she could do anything to show her appreciation for our nurses. Lisa showed up last week with Gatorade, snacks, and treats! Her generous donation was given to the ER Nursing staff to help them power through their shifts. Lisa - thank you so much for your kindness and generosity! We are so grateful for community members such as yourself, and more so during this difficult time. We our community!
Our President & CEO, Stephen Street, will be retiring by the end of this year. Thank you, Steve, for all you have done for GMCH and NWHC in the last decade!

Today marks a big, historic milestone as the first few doses of the COVID-19 vaccine were administered to our staff. First photo: Allison Lewis, RPN Groves Hospital and Fergus COVID Assessment Centre nurse receives COVID-19 vaccine Second photo: Barry Rothwell and Taylor Rulton- The first Groves Hospital ER staff to receive the COVID-19 vaccine... We have come a long way since the pandemic was declared back in March. Today gives us hope and strength as a community to get through this difficult time.
The Fergus COVID-19 Assessment Centre is now open 7 days a week. Please visit www.whcacovid.com for online booking and resources.
Check out this fundraiser! Thank you to the team at Optimum Integrative Health Centre for their incredible generosity.
We’re thankful to be a recipient of a grant from the CMA Foundation COVID-19 Community Hospital Fund! This grant helped our hospital purchase a CleanSlate UV, which is now placed at the Groves Legacy site. Patients and visitors can use this machine to clean their devices while they wait for a COVID test. We also have a CleanSlate UV at Groves Hospital for staff to use! In this video, Janelle Ellis, Professional Practice Leader, demonstrates how to use the CleanSlate UV. To learn more about this grant, click here: https://bit.ly/3l5Onpu
Everyone at Groves, such as our Health Records, Lab, and Obstetrics Departments, received Tim Hortons gift cards from a generous, grateful patient named Dr. Peter Lemisky. Dr. Lemisky visited the ER recently and was impressed with the care he received. All of the frontline workers were great and very amicable to my concerns. Thank you. Dr. Lemisky - thank you so much for your generous gift to the staff at Groves. We are so grateful for our incredible community!
Pete and his team at Shoetopia Footwear donated gift certificates of $20 each to everyone here at Groves! Thank you Shoetopia for this thoughtful donation to allow our hardworking health care workers to buy themselves something nice during these difficult times. We appreciate your generosity! Meet Chris & Bernie Andrews. This incredibly generous couple made a $10,000 donation over the holidays towards the Equipment Fund at Groves! Did you know? Patient care and technology in hospitals are NOT covered by government funding in Ontario. All of the equipment at Groves Hospital is funded by the generosity of donations from the community - just like Chris & Bernie! Thank you, Chris & Bernie, for giving to Groves. Please visit www.grovesfoundation.com to learn more or to make a donation.
The New Groves Hospital helipad opened on Tuesday, December 1st. Less than a week later, it was put to use. Thank you to our air ambulance partners, Ornge, for the amazing work you do! Please be advised that if you’re visiting the hospital to stay at least 200 feet away from the helipad when in use to protect against noise and possible flying debris.
The holidays are quickly approaching! We want to remind our community to do their part to help stop the spread of COVID-19. Please consider some of these practices to stay safe and healthy this holiday season.
Handwashing is so important - now more than ever. Scrub your hands for at least 20 seconds. Need a timer? Hum the Happy Birthday song from beginning to end twice. Please wash your hands frequently to protect yourself and those around you.
This sculpture was created by a local artist named Jo-Anne Harder, who also dedicated her time to install the artwork at Groves. The artwork was donated by Helen Sinclair in memory of her late husband, Paul Cantor. It represents family and unity, which truly symbolizes the care provided to our community by everyone here at Groves. Thank you Helen for your generous donation! This wonderful addition to the hospital's garden will be enjoyed by our staff and the community for years to come.
Optimum Integrative Health Centre has brought their annual hospital fundraiser virtual this year. Thank you Optimum for helping raise funds for the ongoing equipment needs at Groves and supporting community health care! Check out their online fundraiser here:
It's hard seeing everyone's moustaches this year, so our Information Communication and Technology (ICAT) team got creative! These unique moustaches can still inspire donations, conversations, and real change for men's health. #movember2020
The Groves helipad is here! We’re excited the new hospital allows for a much bigger space to have this on-site. Click below to read more

We are so grateful to share that the Fergus Beer Store & Elora Beer Store collectively raised over $16,500 for Groves' COVID Relief Fund! Funds were raised through empty bottle returns along with donations from customers. This charitable initiative ran for only 4 months from June to September - WOW! Thank you to both teams and customers at the Fergus & Elora location for being so giving. We are so proud to be part of this community! #WeAreAllInThisTogether
Medical Radiation Technologists (MRT’s) deliver professional imaging and radiation-related treatment services with a caring touch, allowing patients to fully benefit from the latest in medical diagnostic and treatment technology. MRT’s are in direct contact with patients, whether in the Emergency Department or instances where patients are sent directly to the Diagnostic Imaging Department for their exam. This week, we celebrate the essential role MRT’s play in healthcare. Thank you for your commitment during these very challenging times. : Greg Fess Photography
Never forget, always remember. Today, we honour those who sacrificed their lives.
