Q. What's eating my plant? A. Leafhoppers. Coming in a range of different colours from the redbanded leafhopper to brown and even a translucent yellow these pests suck the juices from leaves and stems and jump all around your plants. Although they generally don't cause significant damage they can spread diseases including powdery mildew and molds especially when flowering. ... They can be controlled by manually 'squishing' if you can catch them, or you can spray them with insecticidal soap in the vegetation stage of growth, or make a garlic and hot pepper spray to deter them. They are naturally predated on by wasps and predatory flies so make sure to have some space set aside for complimentary plants such as Queen Anne's lace, cilantro or dilll to help attract beneficial insects. If you have any questions or need any help to manage and maximise the harvest of your 4 cannabis plants this growing season get in touch. www.grow4trees.ca

Summer pest tips. At the moment there are a lot of butterflies and moths about and they come from caterpillars, many of which love to chew on your cannabis. If you see a wilted top like in the first picture look at the stem below and you will find a small hole bored into it as you can see at the bottom of pic 2. Cut the stem off below the wilted section and cut open the stem to find the caterpillar. If you don't find it you will need to cut lower on the stem as they move do...wn to fresh tissue to feed. This pest may be managed through foliar application of BT (bacillus thuringiensis) a bacteria that will kill the caterpillars that attack your plants and is safe for organic applications. You can get a BT solution at most garden centres. Happy growing.
