As temperatures begin to rise, we turn our attention to sprouting some seeds. We are so excited by the donation from Westcoast Seeds and can't wait to get growing!

We are excited to be part of a big experiment run by FarmFolk CityFolk. The #CitizenSeed trial is such a cool initiative and we look forward to uploading our information and learning about the outcomes of the trial at the end.

The skyrocketing costs of lumber could put our goal for a bridge entry into our community garden in jeopardy. Fortunately, Natures Path has a competition for community gardens and a grant that could help! Please click through and give us a vote. Your support would mean the world to us.

Welcome to Spring. We are excited to see seeds sprouting and sun shining down on the garden site. This week we seeded the pollinator meadow and we are looking forward to watching that area grow too.

We have been collecting stumps and logs to prepare for the next feature in our garden site. Our native plants garden will be ringed with logs and stumps to both retain soil and to help these pieces of wood slowly return to the land that they came out of. It will require some excavation work and some chain saw artistry, and in the end we expect it to be a remarkable feature. A big shout out to Elixander from the City of New Westminster who is lending us some of his considerable experience building similar features all around the city.

Sometimes you need to get 50m off the ground to get another perspective. We had a drone's-eye view of our program participants learning to operate some heavy equipment with ProSafe First Aid Training School Inc.. After 2 days we had 6 new certified operators and 64 yeards of gravel spread across the site.

What could be cooler than growing peas and tomatoes AND contributing to a scientific experiment? FarmFolk CityFolk are running a Citizen Seed Trial and you can participate. We plan to join them and document some special varieties and send them our results. #citizenseed

We're so appreciative of The Wellness Show for providing us with a virtual booth this year. Our garden builders all plan on having a virtual tour of the show this year, hoping to attend in person for the 2022 session! https://www.thewellnessshow.com

Last week we had another great training class provided by ProSafe First Aid Training School Inc. where our crew received certification on skid steer operation. To make it more fun we added 60 yards of new gravel and graded the site. Thanks Tan at Westland Design for your instruction and support - we enjoyed having you at our site.

With a mild Winter and some cold frames on our first garden boxes, we've managed to harvest! Some boy choy and herbs might not seem significant, but this is JANUARY! We can not wait for Spring planting.
