Resuming pet trailer trials after long hot summer. This allowed me to acquired the pieces for better harnessing. New halter. Lobster clips for quicker 'seatbelting.' Nice soft dog bed for trailer floor. Anti slip runner affixed to floor. Jolie doesnt like confined spaces - definitely true. I think that's the main reason behind her not liking the trailer. But she also doesnt like getting left behind if mom goes on a bike ride. She is capable of wimpering and crying to the sa...me degree in both instances. I would rather be able to take her with me anyway. So we all just have to tough it out. I feel she's harnessed in well enough that she cant jump out, so she's safe. Am also sure that she's comfortable. Note to self - top up air in tires on trailer. She did all right on short trip to neighbourhood park yesterday. Tried a longer ride today (which is my goal with her). She was much more agitated than on short ride. But she did like the walk along the familiar trail. Return trip was better than the trip out there. A few treats in my pocket (specifically 4). So not too many. But enough to prov steady trickle of reward. She's hyper food motivated (understandable for a dog with diminished mobility). So it's a matter of finding the fine balance where the treat is still motivating, rather than the obsession. Also, this time I'm following her trailer on bike while B tows it. Before, I felt i needed to tow since she and i would be on our own. But since covid has rolled on, i've realized i can use this time and the folks around us to help her acclimatize. Pics by Benjamin Mckenzie Sutter
