Here's your Monday smile on this dreary day! GTHS alum, Zoe (top), cannot get enough of her sister, Suzie. Suzie is a very tolerant girl, as you can see! These lucky pooches get to go to work with their mom! While mom is busy working, these two snuggle the day away.... It just happens to be Zoe's birthday today! Here she is sporting her birthday hat with fellow GTHS kitty alum, Sunnie. Happy birthday, Zoe Not pictured is GTHS alum cat, Mitsy! It's a busy household full of fun, fur and love.

HAPPY TAIL: TUX "Things are going amazingly! Tux is such a sweet boy and loves cuddles and pets. He sleeps with us every night and loves getting the zoomies through the house. He will follow us wherever we go and always greet us in the mornings or when we come home. Tux has been a terrific addition to the family and has given us plenty of laughs and awes. We are incredibly grateful for the people at Georgian Triangle Humane Society, who helped us get Tux and find a new furr...y best friend. He is very happy and so are we! We love you Tux:) " It sounds like Tux hit the jackpot!!! Congrats to Tux and his family on this beautiful meant-to-be adoption.

HEAR YE, HEAR YE, WE PRESENT TO YOU SIR WALTER KATZ This noble gentleman came to us not very long ago. Sir Walter Katz symbolizes the reason why we are so grateful to house our very own animal hospital. Upon arrival, as you can see, Sir W.K. had an irreversible eye condition that needed to be looked after in order to make him healthy and comfortable. Upon further examination, we also saw that he required dental work. He was also unaltered, so we knew he needed to be neutered ...as well. After eye removal surgery, two dental extractions and a neuter, Sir W.K. is doing very well! He is chatty, has lots of energy and is a cuddle bug, according to staff and volunteers. He is extremely friendly and would make a perfect addition to any home. He will be made available in the coming days, as soon as Dr. Amaro, our GTHS Animal Hospital Veterinarian, gives him the green light. If you're interested in welcoming Sir Walter Katz into your home, visit www.gths.ca/animals-for-adoption over the next few days to view his full profile.

COMMUNITY MEMBER LENDS HELPING HAND TO SENIOR DOG DURING LOCKDOWN Marley is a 13 year old dog who is looking to live out his golden years in a quiet home. When he first came to us, we knew that Marley would do best in a foster home as he waits to find a family to call his own. As a set-in-his-ways kind of guy, the shelter was just too busy and noisy for a nervous guy like Marley. ... In swoops Ruby, one of the members of our incredible foster team. A retiree and a very familiar face at the GTHS, Ruby stepped in to care for little Marley until he is adoption-ready. Her quiet house is a perfect place for Marley to lay his head as he recovers from dental surgery and an ear infection. It’s a sanctuary for him. With a beautiful backyard that contains many things to sniff (according to Marley), and two caring individuals, Ruby and her husband, we knew this was the perfect temporary home for him. Here’s what Ruby has to say about Marley: He’s a wonderful wee companion. I’m sure he is hard of hearing, but is well behaved, house trained (he’s had no accidents!) and really bright. He loves walking 'round the yard, very curious. He’s not a snuggler, but wants to be right by your side. He sleeps well on his comfy wee bed and knows it’s bedtime when we turn off the lights. Remember above when we said he was stuck in his ways? Ruby found out, by trial and error, that he only enjoys beef or lamb wet food. But, does he ever LOVE it. He has no problem standing on his back legs to try and reach a plate of food before Ruby has a chance to set it down. He can’t get to it quick enough! We are so fortunate to have such compassionate volunteers who go out of their way to make the pets in their care as happy and as comfortable as possible. A big thank you to Ruby for looking after Marley until he’s ready to find his new family. Marley will be available for adoption in the coming days. He will be listed at www.gths.ca/animals-for-adoption very soon! Thank you to Blue Mountain Veterinary Services for supporting adoptables like Marley!

FAMILY DAY FOR LULU Foster dog Lulu, who came to us through our wonderful partnership with Northern Reach Rescue Network, wanted to be included in the provincial holiday, so she chose today to give birth to her bundles of joy. When we received the call earlier this evening, we were told that Lulu was now a proud mama to seven beautiful pups...... ...a little while later, an eighth made a surprise appearance!!! Mama, her five boys and three girls are all doing well and being cared for and loved in their foster home. What a fantastic way to cap off the Family Day weekend

HAPPY TAILS: WILLIE Some of you may remember us posting about Willie last summer. Before coming into our care, he was struck by a vehicle and had a fractured leg. Once at the GTHS, he received the surgery he needed to help him live pain free. He was then adopted into a very loving home: "Willie loves to play outside and to run around the farm. He especially loves playing in the snow. He’s also rather mischievous, as he’s always trying to rip apart his beds when nobody’s looki...ng. Thank you so much to the GTHS team for all the help in getting him rehabilitated after his accident. He runs so fast, you’d never know what had happened. We’re so happy to have welcomed Willie into our family! He also thinks he's a lap dog!" What a wonderful update! Thank you for sharing! If you would like to share your story about how your GTHS adopted pet has benefited you and your household, don't hesitate to send us a message!

LOVE HAS NO BOUNDS This weekend, Anouk came by the GTHS Animal Centre with her mother. Anouk’s cat, who was adopted from the GTHS, passed away last week, and Anouk wanted to do something special in honor of her cat. Anouk and her mother donated all of this cat food to our Pet Pantry Program. The passion of youth is a powerful thing! Thank you Anouk for loving your GTHS kitty and thank you for turning that love into food that is going to help feed other furbabies in our community.

POOKA is affectionately named "Vampire Kitty" around the GTHS as he has had several teeth removed - although his top canines remain, his bottom canines are gone which makes for a cute, Dracula-like grin! Thank you to our Adoption Partner, Mike Jackson Chevrolet Cadillac Buick GMC for supporting adoptable animals like POOKA! Read about Pooka below:... My name is Pooka! I'm a distinguished senior man of 12 years old. And yes, although I may be a senior, I still have lots of life and love left to give! I arrived to the GTHS through no fault of my own and to be honest, I was a little shook by this big change at first, but now I'm focusing on my future and am SO excited to find some wonderful new humans to love. Picture this relaxed life together....I'm older and sort of "set in my ways" and maybe you are too. We have nice mornings together; you having your coffee and me watching what's going on outside from the window sill. Maybe I sit beside you while you read the newspaper. While you're busy throughout the day, maybe I'll spend some time napping, taking a bath, having some lunch and then purrhaps another nap (or even better, we could nap together!). Then in the evenings I could cozy up in a nice bed or maybe next to you on the couch while you read or watch tv. It's a quiet and simple life together and I am LOVING the sounds of that! If I could though, I'd like to ask for an adult only home if that's okay. The tiny humans are a bit much for a relaxed guy like me and if I could ask a little more, maybe I could be your only pet as well? I'm not trying to be picky, I just want to make sure I find a loving new home where I know I'll be successful and on my best behaviour! My adoption fee is only $75 and includes my neuter, up to date vaccinations, dewormer and a microchip! So, if you've got a calm and quiet home with older adults only and are looking to add a sweet gentle guy to your family, you have found me. Purrs, xoxo Pooka *If you are interested in adopting me, please visit our main adoptions page (https://www.gths.ca/animals-for-adoption/) for instructions on our modified covid adoption process* #poweredbymikejacksongm

HAPPY TAIL: FRISBEE "Frisbee here (or, as the tiny human here has dubbed me, Leo. It has a ring to it don’t you think? Like a handsome courageous lion!) It’s been about 24 hours since I came to my new home and BOY WHAT A 24 hours it’s been! I have to say, I wasn’t so sure at first because I really missed my brothers and sisters and cried and looked all over for them. Then - get this! A HUGE thing they call a DOG appeared from out of no where! Pardon my French but... it scared... the poop out of me! My new mom says I sent everything on the table flying and literally climbed the walls and hung from the curtain. I don’t know, it was all a blur. I just know this dog shrugs and walks away, as if to say what’s up with the new guy? I’m slowly getting better and learning he’s pretty harmless, but I’m still making sure he knows I am little but mighty and know a thing or two about cat karate. I’m also eating everything in sight. That scary dog’s food is the best. I even snuck some of what the humans call coffee this morning - and let me tell you - I liked it! Mom says I don’t need caffeine, though. I’ve also snuck peas, corn, pasta and meatballs when the humans weren’t looking. Liked ALL OF IT! I tried to help my mom with her breakfast this morning but... she’s onto me. Tiny humans are great, they drop food and leave it unattended! Plus they have lots of energy and attention to give - JUST like me!!! I like the tiny humans. But my favourite part of my new home is all the cuddles. I’m SUCH a baby and want to be cuddling with my family 24/7. I cry if someone isn’t touching me or carrying me around, my mom’s such a sucker, guys! I even tried VERY insistently to help mom do her work on her computer by typing emails with my paws for her this morning. She said didn’t need help so we played with a feather wand instead. Anyway, I just wanted to let y’all know I’m doing well and figuring this place out already. The humans keep saying how cute and sweet I am and tell me that I’ll stop missing my brothers eventually. Then we cuddle, which makes me purr like crazy and it does make me forget my woes lol. Tell my bros I say hi though pleez and hope they’re getting just as much love as I am (and hope they don’t have a DOG for a brother - eye roll) - Love, Leo (formerly Frisbee)"

PET PHOTOGRAPHY: A BEHIND THE SCENES LOOK Kazoos. Squeeky Toys. Camouflage Bushes. (Very) Strange Mouth Sounds. Brute Strength. A Sense of Humour. PATIENCE. These are just a few of the things required to get the perfect shot.... When you see the extraordinary pet photos of our adoptable animals by Gotcha! Photo Studio, we want you to remember this compliation video featuring Jen (Gotcha Photo Studio owner/photographer), Avery (assistant and Jen's daughter) and Daniela (GTHS Volunteer / dog wrangler who is always willing to get the job done - she's been known to crawl around in the snow for the sake of a good pic...ok,ok...she's usually crawling around AFTER falling on her behind - but she keeps coming back and we are so happy that she does!) photographing a couple of our large and strong doggies, Leif and Petunia. You'll be able to see the results of their hard work TOMORROW by visiting www.gths.ca/animals-for-adoption Adoption work is very much a team effort. From intakes and writing up profiles, to snapping pics that showcase the very best of an animal, we could not do it without the dedication of MANY caring and passionate people. We are truly grateful. HOW CAN DOG PLAY HELP WITH BEHAVIOURS? - Dog play is a great way to expend extra energy - It helps with bite inhibition - dogs play-bite each other and they teach each other how much pressure is ‘polite’ and OK so it helps puppies (and mouthy adults) learn how to (or not to) bite appropriately! Some dogs need a ‘mouthing’ outlet, and without this proper outlet, they end up mouthing things they shouldn’t.... - Dog play is the number 1 activity we choose as a treatment plan for ‘jumpy/mouthy’ dogs and many other behaviour challenges -Dog play can really boost a dogs confidence and help fearful dogs learn to trust again -It also helps to tire dogs out before doing any training work so they can focus better! -Observing dogs play with each other offers people great insight into their internal communications so people can learn how to better interact with them Bella (the smaller dog in the video) is leash reactive to dogs. By giving her access to appropriate dogs, we are hoping to help the leash reactivity. Let's talk about PIZZA for a moment (we promise this has to do with dog behaviour!): Imagine you are in a room FULL of hot and delicious pizza. You haven't eaten in days and there is a cage around the pizza so you can’t get to it. At some point, you are going to lose your cool because you are starving and want to eat! This is how frustrated dogs feel when faced with other dogs and can’t access them (because they are leashed up). They then tend to react in ways that are inappropriate.
