Gold is now testing $1900 USD Gold is above $2530 CAD How high will it go?

Gold and Silver have both exploded higher over the last couple of days and weeks. Gold is trading into the $1870's and Silver is close to $23 USD. This is all happening as the USD slides lower against the major currencies. There isn't really any technical resistance on metals up above and if the trend continues I expect to see all time highs in gold. Next major hurdle $1900. Silver is up almost 13% in the last two days....

Well, well, well. It took a few days but Gold took out the $1800 USD level this morning on the August Future. Of course gold up $20 today means the EFP (Estimated Futures Premium) over spot has also widened from $14,50 to about $18. That means spot gold is $1783 and the Aug future $1801.... Canadian dollar up 50 bips to 1.361, gold spot CAD $2549. On we march.

Failed $1800 test yesterday. Gold has given back $25 from its high yesterday of $1996 (August Comex Future). We talk futures pricing mostly on this page. The spot discount to the futures contract is much more volatile than before Covid. We hedge our Precious Metals with futures contracts. In order to come up with spot pricing we take the spot month on the Comex future gold contract, in this case August, then we subtract the Estimated Future Premium from the contract price. ... We get a couple of indications every day on what that discount is from banks and brokers. This morning at 7am we were seeing a discount of $7/$11. Keep in mind that the discounts can change during the day if the market is volatile. So how SPOT then works is: If we are selling gold, they would discount $11. $1771 August minus $11, $1760. The $1760 is what we get paid selling Gold institutionally. In order for us to make a profit we have to discount from $1760. Many "spot" prices are available online and we are challenged regularly on the calculation of spot based on the spot prices "quoted" online. Everyone should understand that those price are indications only. Almost universally, you would not be able to deal at that price as it is just a reference. Clients who buy precious based on that price are generally overpaying since no one would deal at those prices. Sorry for the length of the post but it's an important aspect of the business that everyone should be aware of. As a precious metal buyer you need to take a discount of those prices so that your pricing makes sense.

Gold jumped overnight. You know the reason? Answer: House of cards based on zero rates and Central Bank social welfare has a long term cost. August Future high was $1796.10. Last at $1786.30

Gold is today continuing the move higher. Seems relentless but.... $1767 last, up $17 Canada is up again vs USD, around 1.35 Gold vs CAD $2384 area.

More buyers than sellers the last few days. Gold traveled to $1760 this morning. Relaxed now and quietly up $11.40, last around $1750. Not so lucky in Canadian terms as our dollar moved up over half a percent vs the USD. Last around the $2370 level. Gold up and we made a new 3 week up today vs USD.

Gold has continued higher today, up $19.40 to around $1720 USD spot. We broke back above $2300 Canadian for the first time in a week. Canadian dollar going from 1.405 to 1.34, and lower(Higher) had been a big drag on the gold price locally. Resistance on gold at $1725 USD.

Gold made it back over $1700 USD today. Nice move up over $20.

Gold and Silver had a strong week. $2455 spot $23.25 spot These moves seem to have some sustained underlying fundamentals. Perhaps the facts are changing and price is starting to reflect value.

After being a precious metals traders for a few decades you usually get smug and believe you've seen it all. Today i was reminded not to be so smug about my "vast" knowledge and "experience". Gold shot up $100 USD, unless you were trying to sell it. This morning inter-bank bids were $80 to $90 below the April Futures contract. Have never seen anything close to that kind of distortion. At the end of the day, it was $20. Yesterday the discount was in the neighborhood of $3.20 Enough said. We are shutting operations for the Ontario shut down All dealers should. My wife said so.
