Guats Up

Wow a whole year has gone by since the last post! but it has been another busy year. Since it’s starting to look like Christmas why not do some decorating? Here’s what we have been doing this past week!

Guatemala has become my second home over the past few years, and with the news of Volcano Fuego (fire) erupting, it makes my heart ache! For a country which already suffers, this disasters just makes it that much worse. On Sunday, the active Volcano created the largest eruption since 1974, causing black ash to fly into the air and land in communities, completely covering them. Many residents did not have time to evacuate, and were burned alive as a result of the 1000 degree ...lava, flowing at a rate of 100-140 kmh. The death toll is at 72 right now, but will increase as Bomberos (firefighers) and Military start to make their way into the scorching communities closest to the Volcano. Fuego is 83 km from Panajachel where I stay in Guatemala. Thankfully none of my friends there were affected, however 1.7 million have been! People in Pana felt the earth shake, can/could see the eruptions, smoke and ash- and mourn the destruction to fellow citizen in nearby towns. #VolcanDeFuego #TodosPorGuate #PrayForGuatemala
