So this is probably the longest update gap since I started the blog - but there really hasn't been much to report. I moved back to BC due to my contract finishing in Ottawa, and have been there since. No luck finding a job yet (apparently everyone else is also job searching) but enjoying being back in Victoria. In sailboat news, it looks like continuing on west next year is pretty much off the table - French Polynesia has a really high infection rate and it's probably just a matter of time before they join the other countries in lockdown. So just another quick update - I haven't died and things are still chugging along. It's looking more and more like I will end up heading back to Mexico next year, pick up the boat and sail her back to BC. Selling her in place seems like a hassle (and I am very lazy), shipping North would be 12,000 USD (which is a lot of money) so that leaves sailing her back myself. Well, it's been a while since I updated this, mainly because nothing has really changed. I'm still in Ottawa, covid is still rampaging around the place, the Pacific is still closed and Gudge is still in Mexico. Ottawa is currently going through a record heatwave (aka the new normal) and I am cursing whoever thought it was a good idea to build a city in a swamp. Back in Canada I've been in Canada about a month now, and been putting off writing this post for a few reasons - I was exhausted for a while and then I was waiting to see how things shook out before I put anything down on paper. Ottawa is fine, I've been working at my job (it does feel nice to get money again) and getting used to living in an apartment with roommates. We hung out at Los Muertos for a week, waiting for weather. It's a nice place, but us and the other eight or so boats in the bay were all rather on edge, waiting to hear what would happen. The morning HF net brought more news of closures every day, so we were getting worried in case we got stuck there. [ 853 more words ] https://www.gudgeonblog.ca/decision-made-back-to-canada/
No matter which of the three options I chose from, I'd need to move the boat north to the La Paz area again. It'd be a better area to leave for Canada from, it's the entrance to the sea of cortez if I was staying and it has some good places to leave the boat if I was flying back.
