We are honoured and grateful to have won a Guelph Mercury’s Reader’s Choice Award for best Marriage, Family, & Individual Counselling in Guelph! To be recognized by members of our own community means so much to us. I am also proud of the dedicated clinicians that we have here at Guelph CBT who work hard every day to make a difference in the lives of our clients, their families, and our community. Thank you, Guelph, and thank you to our amazing clinicians, Drs. Kelleher and Thibodeau, Stephanie Brien and Melissa Lowe!

Although these times can be difficult, stressful, depleting, isolating and, at times, demoralizing, we are also learning lessons every day about resilience and perseverance. If we are open to learning, we may even find ways of thriving. #mentalhealthawareness #psychotherapy #psychologist #stress #selfcompassion #psychology #therapyworks #anxietymanagement #managinganxiety #cbt #cbtworks #selfcare

As #ocdweek wraps up, let’s remember that OCD is not just about being a neat freak and it isn’t a positive that helps us keep tidy or organized. Obsessions in OCD can be related to many themes, including fear of causing harm to yourself or others, unwanted sexual thoughts, contamination, obsessional doubt, and many others. These thoughts and the associated compulsions are by definition extremely distressing and impairing. People are not a little bit OCD - those with OCD are often consumed with obsessions and compulsions. And CBT can help!

At times like these when our lives are decidedly not "normal", we may feel an urgency to return to normalcy in order to assert some sense of control. And it is in times like these that we get to choose what our new normal looks like. Can you preserve healthy relationships or traditions and let go of ones that no longer fit for you anymore? Or can you modify or introduce new ones that really matter to you? You have the power to choose, while accepting the parts that you cannot control.

In Canada, 15 to 20% of pregnant or new mothers experience symptoms of depression or an anxiety disorder, yet 85% do not receive adequate mental health care! Cognitive behavioural therapy is a highly effective treatment - ask us for more information about how we can help.

This thanksgiving, I am reflecting on the many things for which I am grateful... I am grateful for the many people who reach out for help when they are struggling and persevere when things seem insurmountable. I am grateful for the amazing psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, therapists, and other mental health clinicians who tirelessly show up every day to care for our clients and friends when they need help the most.... And I am eternally grateful for the amazing friends and family who have supported us to do the work that we love and have enabled us to help others in our community. Many thanks.

Nothing changes if nothing changes! Sometimes small changes, in thought, attitude, or behaviour, lead to big outcomes. Don't discount small efforts because over time they grow into a new normal from which to build.
