Due to the recent Stay-at-Home order issued by the province, we are required to follow the protocol for all lesson barns. We will no longer be running lessons for the winter 2021 semester for the safety of our riders, coaches and barn staff. We apologize for any inconvenience this causes anyone, but we hope you are staying safe during this time. Here at UGEC we understand how important riding can be as an outlet in a student’s life, so we will do our best to support and keep everyone engaged with the club during these unprecedented times. Hello Everyone! With the progression of COVID-19, the University of Guelph Equestrian Club has had some schedule cancelations that we would like to make sure our riders are made aware of. As per directed by Ontario Equestrian all barns have been closed, so there will be no final lesson next week for the Hunter lessons at Old Orchard Farms. Keurwood Equestrian in Rockwood/Erin is looking for a weekend worker, approximately 8-9 hours per day. We offer a relaxed work environment with wonderful boarders and opportunities to gain experience on an established showing and breeding farm with mares, foals, young horses, stallions, senior horses, and all the way up to Grand Prix level horses. Responsibilities include but are not limited to handling, turn in/out, feeding, stall cleaning, bedding, sweeping, blanketing, ba...sic care, injury assessment and treatments. Starting wage is $15-$16/hour depending on experience. We have several UoG students and alumni at our farm. Previous horse experience and a reliable vehicle is a requirement. We hope that everyone had an amazing holiday and we are excited to start up our winter 2020 semester hunter riding lessons! I will be having 2 meetings to hand out forms and answer any questions about the hunter lesson. They will run for ~20 minutes and I will stay afterwards to answer any questions. The meeting dates are: Monday, January 6th at 3:00pm in the lobby of MCKN AND Thursday, January 9th at 1:30pm in the lobby of MCKN... Please print off and fill out the form attached to this post and bring it to one of the meetings or email me the form at [email protected]. I will also have some copies at the meeting for you to fill out if needed. Although, forms will not be due until Wednesday January 15th at noon. There will be a general meeting date posted by the end of this week for the other disciplines in the club. The Hunter Lessons ride out of Old Orchard Farms with our coach Linda Hale. If you are interested in trying out for the OCEA team next fall, lessons are a good way to keep up with your riding and get use to the horses that are used in tryouts. Lessons are 325$ for 8 weeks and will go from January 20th to March 20th (no lessons during reading week). You will need a University of Guelph Equestrian Club membership (10$/semester) and an OEF number. You do not need a car or your own horse to participate. If you do have a car, please consider using it to drive your lesson group to the barn as we can only run as many lessons as there are cars.

The informational meetings for the 2020 OVC Foal Watch team will be: January 7th at 5:30pm in Pathobiology 1812 January 9th at 10:30am in the Animal Cancer Centre 1107 To get to 1107 please enter at the doors under the large 'OVC Companion Animal Hospital' sign (on college), go through a second set of doors and turn right, the room will be on your left.... Foal watch is a great way to gain clinical experience with neonatal foals and mares. You must attend at least one of the meetings in order to get a sign up sheet.
