Consider creating a postpartum plan with your partner/support people! The more you discuss the important things prenatally, the more prepared you’ll feel once baby is here. Images: @melissamedjuck #guelphmidwives #postpartum #gettingreadyforbaby #midwifery @ Guelph Midwives
A beautiful testimonial from @mystylist.laura Words will never be able to express my thanks to these beautiful women for all the love and support they have offered our family. They were super supportive in helping me develop my plan for my goal of a VBAC delivery, helping me gain confidence and prepare for birth. They stuck with me and were so patient and encouraging through a very long, difficult and slow to progress labour never leaving my side once. I truly don’t e...ven think they drank water! They literally held the heart rate monitors in place for 12 hours straight while Ada rolled around so we could keep an eye on some worrying heart decels. They never faltered once, always showing confidence and skill and we felt so safe and empowered to make excellent decisions with their help and guidance. They were creative and encouraging with so many pain management suggestions and always supportive of the choices we made. They taught me patiently how to push and encouraged me enthusiastically the whole time! They taught Alex how to best help me and made him feel valued in the birth space. They delivered Ada with such gentle care through a tightly wrapped cord and expertly managed my intense repairs. They somehow even managed to bring humour and fun to the room which was SO needed at the time. I know I wouldn’t have been as successful without these wonderful women and I am forever grateful to them for helping me birth our beautiful Ada. I am so sad to say goodbye to our weekly visits but so happy to know that I have friends in the pipeline to deliver with these wonderful humans To Natalie and Marta- thank you! See more

Some updates about entering Guelph General:
To my dear midwives, Gabrielle, Leah and Alex, thank you! One of the most precious memories I have is being surrounded by your love and care. From holding you tight will riding contractions, to you whispering in my ear it was going to be alright during a spinal procedure, to meeting the six week milestone and having my babies discharged from your care. You were there every step. Getting to share not only the joy and pride of motherhood but also the fear and worries with you has been a gift to remember for a lifetime. What a sacred job you have! An excellent visual of how babies fit in there! Isn’t it amazing?
Birth *does* reshape our lives. Which is why it’s so important to feel informed, empowered and supported by your birth team!

October 15 is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Day. Today we remember the little ones we hold in our hearts instead of our arms.
Happy Halloween! Hope everyone had a safe and fun night!
Damaged nipples? Your midwife can help you with a deeper latch, but in the meantime you can use this simple but effective treatment to help sooth and heal tender nipples.
Thank you, Liane, for sharing your positive experience with us!
Welcome baby Cade, and congrats to parents Miranda and Joshua! Cade was the first Guelph Midwives baby born at the new Groves Memorial Hospital! Team F has a thriving satellite clinic in Fergus and delivers babies at Groves as well as Guelph General.

A helpful way of checking in on yourself when you’re feeling burnt out from parenting. Are there ways you can build in more NESTS into your life? Repost from @_happyasamother
McMaster University is offering free online treatment workshops for women who have been feeling depressed, down, or anxious after the birth of a baby. These wor...kshops are based on Cognitive Behavioural therapy (CBT) and are being offered as part of a research study. Women will be eligible to participate if they are living in Canada, over the age of 18, and have a baby under 12 months.
We stand with Black and racialized families in the fight for equality, and freedom from violence and prejudice.
Thank you to midwife Gabrielle’s son Skylar for this beautiful tribute to midwives!
