Just a reminder that Select Coaching applications are due Dec 15! There are still a few divisions where we currently do not have any applicants.
Today we wrapped up our 6 week Baseball Experience. Our focus today was fun and wiffleball. Thank you to Canada Wide Sports for gifting each player a Blitzball bat and ball and to our board members Adam and Rob who put on the games today, and helped each week. Thank you to our friends at Guelph Royals of the IBL, U of G Baseball, Peak Performance Athletics, Sandlot Baseball, Brad DiCarlo & Paul Ante and Canada Wide Sports for hosting a week of training. Finally, thanks to our players. It was so great watching you improve each week and have fun!
The Province of Ontario and Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health recently announced that Guelph will be moving into the Red (Control) level effective Monday... Dec 14th, 2020. At GMBA, the health and safety of our membership has always, and will continue to be, our number one priority. Considering this, the GMBA Board of Directors has made the tough decision to suspend all in-person baseball activities effective Monday Dec 14th. Any scheduled activities prior to Dec14th can continue with the current protocols in place. Please contact our office if you have any questions
We held out first Baseball Experience Clinic this morning! This weeks GMBA clinics were run by University of Guelph baseball. There is still space available. Check out www.gmba.ca. 5 more weeks to go with a different training experience each week. Huge Thank you to all involved. Guelph Royals Baseball Club of the IBL , Guelph Gryphons, Blitzball, PPA l hithouse, Sandlot Baseball, Brad Dicarlo, Paul Ante and all GMBA board members and volunteers who made this happen. A lot of happy baseball players this morning!!!

I want to live in a community that values and supports a broad range of interests and activities, regardless of whether they affect my life directly or whether ...I use them. And I want a city council that represents and supports those values. (Some) on #Guelph city council have blind-spots that are confounding and frustrating. Last week, a motion (left pic) to cut rental fees for non-profit youth sports next year failed - with 6 yes and 7 nos. You gotta wonder why doesn't #BuildBackBetter or #NewNormal or #DiversityandInclusion apply to youth sports? I've been watching council meetings for years, and other groups asking for temp support don't usually get this treatment: (I am paraphrasing here: ) Councilor Allt: Will one-time subsidy will set expectations for permanent subsidy? City Staff: Yes there will "a great deal of resistance" next year you can watch the council meeting here (timestamp 1:47:00): https://pub-guelph.escribemeetings.com//ISIStandAlonePlaye Why are youth sports orgs - whose membership is growing increasingly diverse - being singled out as if they are asking for a handout, when all they are asking for a helping hand up to stay afloat the greatest crisis facing our generation? We don't have kids of our own, but I value youth sports organizations as a vital thread of our community fabric. If you talk to (m)any families - particularly immigrant families or working parents - and you'll learn that youth sports weave community, bring people together, nurture a sense of belonging and keep kids active+engaged. If (some) on city council don't see it fit to support community orgs during the time of their greatest need, then it falls upon us as a community to shore them up. I'll be putting aside some $$ over the next year to donate to these community-led youth sports orgs (right pic) , and I encourage you to do the same.
