What is an Open Bite? An open bite is when the teeth are not lined up properly when your jaw is closed or in a resting position. Most people who have open bites have front upper and lower teeth that slant outwards so they don’t touch when the mouth is shut. This results in a gap or opening between the upper and lower jaw. ... Correcting an open bite is not only good for appearance but also your overall health. #openbite #healthyteeth #guelphorthodontics

Brushing Your Teeth While Wearing Braces Start by holding the toothbrush at a 45-degree angle and gently brushing along the gum line. Next, shift the angle of the toothbrush so that you can carefully brush the tops of your brackets. Then, reposition the toothbrush to angle up so that you can brush under the brackets and wire. Be sure to clean each tooth. Brushing and Flossing your teeth are a crucial step toward keeping your teeth healthy. #brushingwithbraces #healthyteeth #guelphorthodontist

Did you know that grinding your teeth can cause teeth shifting in adults? Constant grinding makes the lower jaw push forward. This puts tension on your top teeth. The continuous pushing has an impact on the position of the upper arch, eventually pulling your teeth out of place. #grindingteeth #teethshifting #guelphorthodontics

Studies have been done surrounding the mouth and body connection. These studies reveal that conditions like gingivitis and periodontal disease could have a direct impact on a person’s heart health. Your teeth may overlap each other and create tight spaces when they are crooked or crowded. This can make it difficult to brush and floss effectively, which allows bacteria and plaque to build up. This eventually can lead to tooth decay and gum disease. #gingivitis #periodontaldisease #healthyteeth #bodyhealth

It is recommended that your child have their first Orthodontic examination by the age of 7. This is when teeth enter a critical developmental stage in children. It takes a Specialist to detect any small problems, as they are difficult to notice at this age. Also, at this time, an Orthodontist can determine if your child’s mouth has enough room for their adult teeth as they grow older. #firstorthodonticexam #healthyteeth #guelphorthodontics

Did you know that Invisalign is made from a type of thermoplastic material? This means that they were once pliable at a high temperature, but have cooled and solidified. This material holds its shape even in the elevated temperatures of your mouth. This means that you don’t need to worry about the shape of the aligners changing as you wear them. #invisalign #clearaligners #guelphorthodontics
