Back to Basics for Our Covid-19 Clients . . . Certified Orthotists are armed with knowledge of a variety of pathologies that we see in our clients on a daily basis, including cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, diabetes, and many others. Typically we use this knowledge, in addition to information collected from subjective and objective assessment of the patient, imaging reports, and consultation with other professionals to decide on the best orthotic treatment option for ...each case. . . . Covid-19 has posed immense challenges to health care professionals over the last several months and the prosthetics and orthotics field is not immune to this. As members of the physical rehabilitation team, we are only now starting to see the longer-term effects of Covid-19 in patients who have otherwise recovered from the virus. Since there is so little known about these effects, Orthotists must get back to basics and rely on our knowledge of biomechanics and our ability to assess the patient's current condition and immediate needs in order to design the ideal orthosis for them. . . . These flexible ankle-foot orthoses (AFOs) were made for a client who has recovered from Covid-19 but is now experiencing a loss of function in their dorsiflexors, the muscles that cross in front of the ankle to lift the foot when walking. These braces will help to improve the patient's gait and help them feel safe and confident while walking, and we hope that they will be one step along the road to a full recovery! @ Guelph Orthotics See more

As Certified Orthotists, it is always our job to be creative in finding the best orthotic solutions for our patients, and today was no different. When this client wasn’t comfortable with coming into the clinic due to the current pandemic, James brought the clinic outside to her! Luckily it was a beautiful day to cast for a custom ankle-foot orthosis (AFO) outside in the sun! @ Guelph Orthotics

Some sweet SMOs coming at you for your Saturday! These pediatric supramalleolar orthoses (SMOs) were used to address severe bilateral midfoot instability resulting from hypotonia. Hypotonia means that the muscles have low tone, or they don’t have much resistance to stretch, and is sometimes referred to as floppy baby syndrome. On top of being super effective, the SMOs are also super cute and look great with this matching pair of shoes! @ Guelph Orthotics

Guelph Orthotics has made the difficult decision to shut down in response to the Covid-19 virus. This decision was made to protect the health and safety of our staff as well as our patients. We will update as the situation changes and we look forward to re-opening when the time is appropriate. We will be continuing to check our voicemails and will be maintaining a wait list as people call in to request an appointment. In your voicemail please let us know if you would prefer an evening or weekend appointment.

Did you know that Orthotist sand orthotic technicians are pretty handy? We make the majority of our custom orthoses onsite, including our custom foot orthotics (FOs), AFOs and KAFOs! This makes it easy for us to make any adjustments necessary in our shop, while you wait. @ Guelph Orthotics

It is so satisfying when a client is happy with their custom orthosis, but it is even more exciting when they want to show it off! Remember that custom knee brace we showed you back in November? Here it is making a special appearance at a holiday party this past year... and looking pretty great too! @ Guelph Orthotics

There’s nothing like starting out 2020 with a cool collaboration... Our client is a big fan of @billybridges18, a 15-year veteran of Team Canada and a Paralympic gold medalist. So, Billy helped us out and provided his autograph to have added to this custom AFO! Needless to say, it looks pretty great and our client was very happy! Special thanks to Billy as well as FinPrint Custom Sublimation Printing - Shirts for the custom transfer paper and for making this all possible!

One year ago today we unlocked the doors and turned on the lights for the first time! Thank you to our wonderful patients for making our first year a success. It has been fun and scary and exciting and stressful and fulfilling and hard work and rewarding ... it has been so many things and we wouldn't want it any other way. We look forward to seeing you as we enter into our second year. ... It is fun to look back at some of the pictures from the build - it feels like a lifetime ago. Cheers!
