The Unitarian Congregation of Guelph 24.01.2021

Sunday, January 31: Imbolc and Membership Imbolc reminds us to reflect on new beginnings and the coming spring. We are reminded that the Wheel of the Year is a cycle, an ever-revolving process. Join us as we explore the Imbolc's wisdom and UCG membership as a process. Though there are organizational needs to define "membership" specifically, the process of membership is often a gradual progression from lesser to greater commitment, lesser to greater relationship, which nei...ther begins nor ends at the point of formal joining, and will continue to shift, change and transform over the year. Membership holds the energy of belonging, more involved connection and the promise to grow together through joys, challenges and gifts that community life offers. Today we formally welcome and celebrate new UCG members, while also acknowledging those who have held the flame for our community over the year, and those who have yet to arrive. May we keep the door open. Facilitated by: Melissa Horvath-Lucid, Rebekah Jamieson , Lauren Stein, Teah Lauermeier, and Linda Reith

Sunday, December 6, 10:30 am We Hear You - or do we? Presenter: Helen Prinold After a joy or concern is raised at UCG, or in other meaningful conversations in our lives, we sometimes say that we have heard the other person. Yet do we hear? Or are we simply following the traditional definition of listening which is making our own meaning from sound? How can we support listening to - and hearing - ourselves and others? Helen Prinold - UCG’s Prope...rty & Environment Committee head - trains locally grown dogs in her business Dog Friendship (she also worked for many years to build Ontario’s strong local food scene). Helen brings her experiences with people...and dogs... to help us ground in what we bring to conversations and how we can use conscious hearing of those around us to build understanding of ourselves and each other. Join the UCG Face Mask Circle! Health Canada strongly recommends that everyone is wearing a mask in settings where social distancing cannot be guaranteed, e.g. grocery stores, pharmacies and public transport. There is an undersupply of both professional and home-made masks. This circle was created to bring together a few UCG members who are volunteering to sew home-made masks with people who will place orders with us for these masks to give them to their loved ones or to gro...ups or initiatives close to their hearts. Here’s how it will work UCG member Anke Kruse is leading the Sewing Circle. Email: [email protected] Text: 416-564-1566 Contact Anke if You want to place an order for masks (you can order as many as you and your group needs) You have sewing materials you want to donate (fabric & elastic) You sew and want to help Pay what you are able If you are able to make a donation, the suggested value is $10 per mask. This is a non-profit initiative, but we’d like it to be self-sustaining. Donations are welcome to help with the purchase of materials.

Opening Doorways to Connection An April Monday evening dialogue for UCG community and friends 7:00 to 8:30 pm via Zoom. Join for one or all of the sessions. The shift in the world begins with a shift in our thinking. Shifting our thinking does not change the world, but it creates a condition where the shift in the world becomes possible. Peter Block, Community: A Structure for Belonging... Mel and Diana invite you to join them in an inquiry into questions that draw us together, that are a doorway opening into greater depth of understanding, inviting us to connect within and with one another. These conversations follow from our shared experience with Monday musings, and are intended to deepen our presence, to connect and reveal blindspots/insights. Each Zoom gathering will focus on a unique question that has us know ourselves, our passions, our gifts and our communit[ies] more deeply. We will draw upon Peter Block’s contribution to community and transformation. This is the Zoom link for each call, will be communicated via the weekly email and the UCG Sunshine Room on Facebook. Check our event calendar for details on weekly topics and quotes. https://guelph-unitarians.com/Calendar-of-Events.php Cofacilitated by Melissa Horvath-Lucid and Diana Smith
